What to get next?
Lease on my E90 330i is up in Feb so it's time for something new. I was flirting with the idea of a 535xiT or an X5 diesel, but I went with a new Touareg TDI, so that takes care of my need for a large, practical vehicle.
Part of me is thinking just go with another E90 or E91 328xi or possibly an E90 335xi. But even though I think these are by far the best vehicles in their class, part of me wants to try something different. Switching the 330i for one of these choices it's going to feel like I just got back into the same car after having it obsessively detailed! Prefer manual this time (sick of driving auto all the time), and I'd prefer awd for the Toronto winter nastiness. Other than the Audi S4, am I really right in thinking that my choices are pretty much non-existent?? Appreciate any suggestions...

the new s4, with it's dual clutch tranny and supercharged engine is a good pick if you are going to get something different.

Ha, I think that's one of those cars that would be awesome to play with for a few weeks, but no AWD, and I've heard that the traction control is really annoying, but that the car is a bit out of control with it switched off...

I do not dare visit the Porsche dealer, since I don't want to end up with a 911 C4S that I can't afford...

335i, Dinan stage 2 software. Buy some real winter tires and you won't need 4wd. Besides, you already have an SUV and 4wd doesn't help you stop or turn in the snow.
335xi sport package comes with stock (non-sport) suspension. It gets the wheels, tires and seats, but not changes to the springs. I found the xi tended to push (understeer) more in slow corners. And with the Dinan software it is easy to rotate the car with your right foot. |

I know where you're coming from, and I ran rwd BMWs in Calgary for three years, always with proper snow tires.
Personally I'll take the added comfort of a slightly softer suspension set up, though. Must be getting old... Quote:

335i is a blast. WAY faster than your outgoing 330i. Think about an 80hp and 100 lb-ft boost in pwer to your car. Or Dinanize it for a 130hp, 175 lb-ft increase.
Then again...535xiT woudl be a great family/ski car. And it can be Dinanized. |
