First oil change/Issue with dealer question
So, I took my e90 to the dealership (Princeton BMW) for its first oil change. just got a call that it was ready so I went to pick it up. Looked at the invoice and saw that they were charging me 22 for antifreeze. I was like WTF?? All I asked for was an oil change. So after a little discussion they took it off the bill. Has anyone else had any issues like this? Please let me know. Thanks

I would imagine that 15,000 interval is fine since that is what BMW recommends and the majority of BMW drivers lease.... they wouldn't want a car that they still own to be at any risk of damage... |

it was around $100... I was told that it you lease it wait for 15000, only because you are going to turn it in and dont really care in the long run, but if you are going to buy do it every 7500... Just with my driving style I dont want to wait that long..

After reading through this post I thought it would be a good idea to create a poll:

How about at least changing the oil filter every 5k miles as a preventative measure. It's easily accessible and can be done pretty easily-not sure just speculating. At the least, it will be more efficient in filtering out the metal particles in the oil while waiting for the recommended BMW maintenance. Just a thought. But I do feel 15k is too long (for the free maintenance)whether there is break-in oil or not. Especially if i plan to keep my 325 way beyond the warranty period, I would want to take extra care as to not have problems past the warranty period. Then it will be my cost not BMW's.
what do you think? Is it easy to change just the oil filter? Last edited by BMRu4ia; 08-09-2005 at 02:18 PM.. |

As I said in the poll thread
We have a 100,000Km or 5 year BMW Motorplan standard here where BMW pays for all service items except tires and any problems with the car have to be fixed free for that peroid. If there was a problem with the service intervals causing damage or shorter life BMW would never give us the motorplan, since they have to fix any problems that arrise in that time |

E90Fleet or anyone can you answer a question for me? I have seen the many discussions regarding which oil to use but never really saw a consensus. What should I use in my E90? Mobil 1 5W30? They have one that says "Euorpean Car Formula". I just need to know of something I can get at; Napa, Pepboys, Checker, AutoZone somewhere like any of those places.

porsches go for 20k before first oil change... unless you magically lost all your money and can't afford to buy a new car 3 or 4 yrs down, don't waste your time or money changing the oil every 5k miles. you really gotta get over the 3k mile rule...

The very latest specification for oils is BMW LL04 A oil you probably should find easily in the USA is the new Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 ( also known as "low emmision formula " ) The normal Mobil 1 5W-30 is also ok and conforms to the BMW spec LL01 which is approved for the E90 330i and 325i |

Has anyone ever noticed that the car's check control system will automatically update the "miles left before oil change" based on your driving style. For example, if you drive the car really hard, you will need oil servicing sooner....I noticed this on my e46 but haven't really noticed yet on my e90.

If you're going to keep the car after warranty, I'd do oil changes every 7500 miles from the get go. Just my $.02 |

Ya know I asked this question some time ago, and it was believed that the computer keeps track of miles driven and either the $ of engine starts and/or the # of fillups. The logic was..more engine starts/fillups = more stop/go, short distance city driving. I dunno |

Thanks for your help E90Fleet!
The longest I am going to go is 7500 miles between, just in case I do have it for a while. To me it's worth the money to be safe. After all it's a very small investment in a pretty expensive car. Jesse |
