Would you still buy?
I want to see what you guys have to say. IMO There are 3 types of BMW owners.
1. owns because of the image of money 2. owns because its a pretty car 3. owns because of the amazing drive and precise engineering, the smile that you get when you hit an off-ramp and the car is on rails, and dont forget the glance back smile as your are walking away, because you know its the most beautiful, and greatest experiece one can have behind a wheel on a normal road legally. My question is would you still buy the car if it was horrible looking? Thats a hard question for me, because the looks are amazing, but the drive and exprience is untouched i know BMW makes me mad sometimes: hpfp, minimal options for the money( i mean kia's come with bluetooth, ipod adapter and navi now for a 1/3 of the money), pain in the ass dealers etc... whats your opinions? EDIT: or even a car that looks like the rest, nothing special...that just blends in the crowd

I don't buy them because of the image. As I suspect most on this forum would say, we're enthusiasts and love everything you mentioned in #3. If the car was ugly? I dunno, ugly is subjective.
Driving experience is number one in my book. Pretty looks are just an added plus.

I think it needs a combination of good looks and performance. So, I'm saying, "No".
The Japanese rally-inspired cars are good performers, but they look terrible. Looks would be one reason I'd never own one. (I wouldn't ever own an E60 5-series, either. The "Kabuki" headlights are a huge turnoff.) |

Hmmm...would I still buy a BMW if it was ugly looking...
I don't think I would. Looks are a huge part of BMW for me. I love the looks equally with its engineering to be honest. |

honestly, current BMW arn't the best looking things on the road. based on appearence only, the S5 looks better than the E92. but the S5 dosen't come with heritage or a background. it still has to prove itself.
IMO, anyone who needs a BMW to be good looking in order to drive one is totally missing the point, and shouldn't be looking at one in the first place they fall into the categories labeled "1" and "2" in your OP. most people on here (i hope) fall into number "3"

I think anyone who has ever done or wanted to do a cosmetic mod falls into the "looks" category. You want your car to look good, why else would you do this? Do tints add 20hp? If only...

Stock for stock, I'd probably agree. Tastefully modded e92? Not a chance. I get people eye-balling my ride every day, always puts a smile on my face. Got a from a guy in his DB9 the other day. Plenty of nicer cars around here and my car's "just a 3 series." |

Anybody claiming image is not a big deal in a BMW is a liar.
Would you buy a Hyundai or Kia 335i equivalent for the same money? except for the BMW stuff (Angel eyes, roundel). |

I think all of those apply in some way or another for me (maybe not as much #1).
That said, I would never get a 6 series, even an M6. Those cars are just fugly. |

not at all. any cosmetic mods are done just to give your car your own personal touch so you can say its truly yours. unless they're 28inch chrome spinners and you have them on just to attract attention.

the 6 series is the car that people get if the want to be seen in a bimmer. totally for showing off. its because of these drivers that the 3 driver, the real enthusiast get ripped on.
