Auto headlights on during daytime
I've only had this car for a week so excuse me if I'm ignorant.
I have recently gotten the exterior bulb warning indicator and I've been all around the car and everything is working fine. I've also recently noticed that the auto headlights are on during even the sunny parts of the day. I can't help thinking that this is related. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone know where the photo sensor is? TIA, Craig |

I believe the sensor is on the dash, center, toward base of the windshield. If you put a piece of paper or a hat on the dash, it may cover it.
Check all exterior bulbs...turn signals, parking lights, brake lights, DRLs, headlights, side markers. |

The sensor is in the windshield behind the mirror next to the rain sensor.

For your headlights being on during the day, maybe your DRL is turned on. You can turn off the DRL using the iDrive or the controls on the stalk.

It's definitely not the DRL's...I even get the headlight led light next to the auto headlight position. It's not the inner two lights anyway.
I'll check again for bulb's that are out. So no one believes that the exterior lamp warning has anything to do with the "system"? I'll let you know if I find/replace a blown bulb.

Is there a stop on the light switch for the lights to be on all the time, like for when the wipers are on? If so, then maybe it is in that spot.

Ok...I think (as mentioned above) that I'm dealing with seperate issues.
The taillight was not lighting correctly...the left lit the triple horizontal stripes but the right actually lit the bottom section (dimly). I removed the light assembly and it started working right, and the warning went off. Weird, I'll keep my eye on it. The auto lights....well I just think they are too sensitive to light. It is clearly daytime, just not overhead sun...morning or evening and they're burning. My inspection sticker (in VA) is in the middle of the windshield but it doesn't completely block the sensor. Thanks for your help.

More research reveals that the rear bulb cluster failing is a known issue.
Also...my lights aren't as sensitive any longer. I think the auto feature is related to the rear light fault.
