CA said "No" to Floor Mats

I got a call from my CA yesterday and he said my vehicle s/b at the dealership sometime tomorrow!! (He said to come on Saturday for delivery)

Anyway, the CA told me that I'd have to talk to "so and so" and "what's his face" regarding the floor mats. I think it's absolutely hilarious that floor mats are NOT included in a $45k car.. Dude, I mean the "Training Fee" is in there right? I mean god forbid if I don't get the appropriate level of training on my vehicle during delivery. I'm so happy that there is an allocation of $180 per vehicle to ensure that the cost of training is reflected on a per unit basis. Why not just throw on the mats you cheapie stealers?? Don't you want me to come back to you in 3 years?? It's goodwill, just do it as a part of your standard operating procedure. Don't make the consumer ask if you the mats are included I think that is so STUPID!!!

I've done some research on this topic and it seems like the freebies that you receive depend on how much over invoice you paid. I mean if you cut a very very slim deal at $350 over invoice, I can understand that you should expect anything for free. But you paid $350 under MSRP, then they probably will throw in carpet mats, all-weather mats, a hat, shirt, key chains etc...

Point is, I don't care about getting all that crap, I just want the all-weather mats. It's not the cost of it, it's just the principle of it... (BTW, I paid $1k over invoice so it's NOT the best deal out there I know, but considering it's an '06 xi, I'm happy with it.)

Oh well, I'll just pay the $60 - $75 bucks or so for the mats and enjoy my ride!! :rocks:

Thanks for letting me vent

I didn't get much either, but he did put the mats on without letting us know. Its good to know my dealer does that as a compulsory reaction.

OH and enjoy your car! Good to know we have more 06Xi ers here .

my SA told me at the price i got ($700 over) he couldn't include anything extra anymore but at delivery, i had all carpeted mats in the car without any mention of it.

i agree with you 100%. there are some dealerships that go over and beyond to make their customer feel appreciated for purchasing a vehicle from them. i heard stories of getting keychains, all kinds of mats, t-shirts, jackets, birthday gifts, (very) special events invitations, etc, etc. some, however, are done with you the moment you sign the papers and they have your money. i guess all you can do is to suck it up and never get a car from them again.

Do ED. They put them in all ED cars.. you don't even have to ask for them.

Yeah, but they're just cheap, plain mats without the BMW lettering. I completely agree with the OP that this is ridiculous. For the U.S. market at least, the nicer floor mats should be included as standard equipment. The '93 Toyota Corolla I used to drive even had better mats than the ED ones!!!

In any case, I'm a little peeved with myself for not working this into the deal in the first place. I heard ED cars had mats so didn't think about it. On the other hand, if the dealer had been more consumer-conscious, they could've helped ensure having a repeat customer on this simple issue.

Just pay for the mat and never do business with them again. But first let them know that they can kiss your arse goodbye because they were cheapass pricks with floor mats.

And tell the dealer to take the training fee money and use it to buy himself more viagra since most dealers don't know jack sh1t about the cars they sell.

I think it's funny how worked up people get over floor mats. I did ED so my car came with the cheapo mats, and I really don't care that much. I don't look at them, and they function adequately so that's good enough for me.

Penny-wise, pound-foolish.

Tell him that you will then pay for the floor mats. He will also agree to accept less than favorable scores when you rate him and the dealership, and that you will have second thoughts about buying another car from there in the future for their penny pinching antics.

I didn't know about the floor mat issue when I got my 330i. So when they brought it out for me, I told the guy they forgot to put in the floor mats. We walked over to the parts dept, and he asked the guy at the desk for a set, and I went on my way.

It wasn't until I joined this forum that I discovered they aren't included. I hope I get a set this time around. Since it's the same dealer, I'll mention they were the last time. That might help persuade them.

I know that the floor mat issue is a very small thing to get worked up over, but it if you take a step back for a moment and think about it, it is just absolutely absurd.

As consumers, we pay fees and markups and all sorts of things. Some are hidden costs, some are built in and some are open/or optional.

If the cost is really that important, the MFG should build it in the per unit cost and then include the mats (carpet or otherwise) as standard equipment on every vehicle. That's it, plain and simple.

OR the dealer should include it in their markup i.e. treat it just like the destination fee or MACO fee or some other per unit allocation of cost.

But to make a customer ASK if mats are included is FILL IN THE BLANK.

It's an important point to make, because it is so stupid. I mean you just paid booku bucks for a car and no one in their right mind would NOT want mats. I mean regardless of getting OEM mats or WalMart mats, wouldn't every BMW owner get mats in their vehicle??

STUPID STUPID STUPID Business rule!!

I'll may take ksfrogman's advice and hold the dealership accountable for this error in judgement. Check your CSI Scores, SERVICE YOUR CUSTOMERS!!

Okay, so I'm still a little worked up over this...

I have to get all out so I can pick up my car in total serenity...

I understand what your feeling, I pick up my car tomorrow and was thinking just last night if I would get the mats everyone on here talks about. I bloody hope so since I paid full MSRP and have been waiting since June to get the car (they've made enough interest on my deposit to buy me a floor mat for every day of the week!!).

I know its a silly issue but I totally understand and will be disapointed if I don't get mats tomorrow.

Well, I got my floor mats thrown in for free, but got totally screwed on the alarm system, so one way or another, they'll get you.

Several other members had the floor mats thrown in at no extra cost. This makes the dealerships look like they will go the extra mile for you.

Anyways, congrats on your new car! Lots to get excited about, and just keep in mind that most everything else you may decide to do to your car will probably cost more than floor mats. So there

i think they should ALWAYS include floormats, regardless of the price. my CA didn't make an issue about it, but i didn't go back and forth negoatiating. He offered the best price in my area, i went there, and picked up the car in 20 minutes. I don't like b'sing around, and i think he didn't either -- but if they didn't throw those in, i would have been pissed. (they probably hid it in the fee anyway)

A lot of great suggestions mentioned. Good luck with that. I guess the lesson to be learnt here for prospective bimmer owners is to spell it out early in the process.

I like the way my CA handles the floor mats issue. My dealership packages their floor mats (carpet or all-season) together with their $100 processing fee which included full tank and valve caps. This was stated up front and its a great way to justify the already reasonable 'processing fee' aka paper filing fee.

And this is with $500 over invoice pricing. He even threw in a set of exhaust tips.
