Rear window seal coming loose at the edges?
The two lower corners of my rear window seal are coming loose, tried to push 'em back where they belong, but they come loose again while I watch. I noticed it very easily with the trunk open.
Anybody else having this issue, and what did you do to fix it? No, I haven't been to my dealer yet.... |

No problem here thankfully, but you should have it attended to as soon as you possibly can to avoid further damage. Sorry to read about your problem. Hopefully it will be a fuss free fix.

I noticed this on my car the first week when I opened my truck and the came off half way off....I put it back but went to the dealership to let them know. They ordered a new piece for it but that part is on back order. Dealer will notify me when it comes in...Just go back and let them know and it will get replaced.

Same here. Mine is lose at the bottom at the drivers side.
The good part is that it has just an estetic function so it is no hurry to get it fixed. I talked to my sales rep today. |

In a strange way, it's comforting to know that this issue involves more than just cars bound for the US market..... |

Mine was slipping out a bit, but I just pushed it back in and tucket it under the rubber that comes down the window from the roof line. It hasn't moved it the past 2 weeks or 4 car washes!

Yep... same story here... For me it's on the passenger side at the bottom edge of the rear window..... I noticed it last week, and just pushed it back in... so far it seems to be in place.... i'm in no hurry to go back to the dealer.. i'm just having fun driving the damn thing.... I will report it in a week or two if it peels off again.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the car and just really dig how it drives and looks. I try to be objective about problems, though, and call it like I see it.....got a few issues to be taken care of, but on balance, it's a great car. |

I had. Except the corners the trim itself is not what it looks like (rubber piping). It's rubber coated aluminum framework. BMW says it can be only renewed along with a new rear window. Well, that's not quite true but it's a real pita. You'll need a lot of soap as a lubricant and take care not to f'up the paint with the sharp edges exposed

Had that problem as well... Just added some sealant into the trim and stuck it back on. Used some duct tape to hold it in place overnight and was perfect the next day. Zero issues and a $5 fix.

On that bottom trim, it is held up by a bead of pressure sensitive glue on the glass edge. By age it starts to peel off from the glass. You can buy a new one, which comes with the bead of glue on it. Peel off the old one, clean the glass edge, align the new one and press it in. But if you can't align good, it won't hold again on the edges, or if you don't clean the glass edge before applying the new one. Also the trim looks like has an aluminum core which is rubber coated. If this core is bent during handling or shipment it may not stick well either.

It is cosmetic trim piece mostly. I am not sure it has enough seal when trunk lid is closed to stop water dripping down from it anyway. And any water that drips down goes around the trunk weather seal and is discharged outside along the rear lights. Just like any other rain water that goes in between trunk lid gaps on the sides.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I just replaced mine and its already coming off again. I even tried to use a small amount of super glue to hold the edges on. But like said above, it seems like its just a cosmetic piece, I am debating getting rid of it all together. Anyone else go this route?
