Woohoo! Picked up a black black dial Daytona last week!

My local authorized dealer called me that they got in a black dial Rolex Daytona in stainless steel on Thursday, and went straight away and picked it up.

For those that don't know, the Rolex Daytona in stainless steel is one of the most sought after watches in the world - each Rolex dealer gets only 1-2 a year.

Here's a shot of new piece:

And here it is with the white dial Daytona which I've had for a couple of years:

I think I prefer the white dial, but the black is quite nice too.

As sad as this is going to sound, I have never owned a watch and I am nearly 40.

Maybe its because I am in the computer/geek biz and I have time on beepers, pages, crackberries, cell phones, computers, in the car, etc. I have never had the need.

That is not to detour from the fact that the Daytona is a beautiful watch and the only Rolex I would ever consider having seen it several time ESPECIALLY in Asia where it is worshipped.

Osterman's in my local mall is one of two authorized Rolex dealers in the area, and has gotten all my watch business. All the watches in my collection are insured.

However, I didn't know the part about this watch being a very hard-to-get piece - my brother has had his (black face) for almost 4 years and neither him or me have heard about this "limited" availablity.

I guess you learn something new everyday.

BTW, why did you have to pay full MSRP? Is there no room to budge on the black-face Daytonas?

i have one on order at the rolex store at the Wynn casino in las vegas. its the exact same watch but with the white face. this is one of the hardest watches to find right now, they told me i should have it in about six years. i have a cartier panther that i plan on trading in towards the rolex if it ever actually arrives. all the rolex dealers in the boston area laugh when i inquire about the s.s. daytona so i dont really look all that hard anymore. what do you think about buying a daytona down in the carribean?
