MP3 with iDrive/Nav
Is this an E90 with MP3 working on iDrive?
Look at the date in the picture. Looks like MP3/iDrive has been working for someone, somewhere for a while. Not sure where I downloaded this from but it was late in May 05! |

so we can go to our dealership and ask them to upgrade our nav software in september? So this will allow the cd slot up front play mp3's right, not having to buy the 6 disk cd changer?

Does this mean those with Sat Nav Pro & the multichanger will be able to have access to a total of 7 CDs of mp3s at once?

Hehehehe!
So let's do the maths: 6 CDs of data + 1 DVD of data = 6 x 700Mb + 4.7Gb (single layer)= 8.9Gb With a dual layer DVD, that takes us to a total of 12.7Gb of mp3s! If we think of 64Mb of music at 128Kbps giving us about 1hour of music, then 12.7Gb will give us er.... over 198 hours of music - over 8 days of continuous music! Viv |

This is really the kind of info I was looking for: that BMW had actually added MP3 capability to a car VIA A SOFTWARE UPGRADE. This makes me feel so much better that all the discussion about this is based on some kind of precedent; that in the past major functionality had been added this way. |

Posted this on another topic/post. Is the Navi system any good. Everyone is telling me to stay away from it. I'm about to order and really want to know what the deal is.
Thanks guys, yes BTW I am a newbie to the board. |

depends on what you expect from a navigation system... I think it does a good job except the calculation fo arrival times needs some improvement. Regarding MP3 BMW surely is behind their competition but seems to get closer :-) mwie |

Thanks,
Funny I got lost today for about 1/2 hour by NYC and thought it would be nice to have The salesman in the dealership I went to was useless, I still have some time before I order but am leading towards it. It's just 2 people with Idrive, 7series owners that is, can't stand it. If it won't hurt the car's resale down the raod and it does a good job with Nav, I'm in. Any other comments on the Nav system. Thanks guys. |

I like my nav... it's not as fancy as say the acura nav system, but it gets the job done. I'm also impressed by its ability to recalculate on the fly if you miss a turn. I haven't tried all the little extra features yet, but I haven't really needed to. Having nav is definitely more convenient... the idrive GUI is not half bad either --not completely intuitive, but once you get used to it, it's not too hard at all.
