Has anyone got a ticket for not having front plate yet?

Hi all
I know there were threads how the front plate 'harm' the beauty of E90 here.

I actually wonder how many of you guys actually received any ticket for not having the front license plate.

I got the plates a couple of weeks ago, but only attached the rear plate. I live in the East Bay(as in SF Bay area) and so far so good.
I heard in SF, police would issue tickets for sure, but in the other side of the bay it doesn't seem so.

I'm moving to San Diego next month and any information would help. Thanks.
BTW, I won't hang the front plate until I get my first ticket. Fair enough?

I got nailed for not having a front plate on my miata 3 months after moving to NY. CT used to have the option for single plate registrations, so the troopers there don't seem to care. So I've decided to have both plates put on the 330i.

2 years ago I got ticketed for not having a front plate (in Washington) but I was written up at the same time for a parking violation. I had no front plates on my car for 2 years before that without getting a ticket. So I think that chances are low that you would get a ticket but if you ever get a ticket for anything (parking, speeding...car looking too good), then you may be in danger of getting two. Good luck.

The rumor I've heard for SF is that they're starting to crack down --but only at the metered parking spots. If you're just in the city over the weekend (when it's free parking at meters) you should be okay. Or if you park in garages you should be fine also. I highly doubt that a cop will pull you over in downtown traffic to give you a ticket for not having your front plate. To me, it's worth the fine anyway --my bumper will never have holes! EVER! *crazed laugh*

I think risk is always there wether you get window tint too dark (like me 5% in PA) or get illegal exterior light mod, or a loud exhaust, loud subs.. but how much risk are you willing to take to personalize your car? I guess Pa drivers are lucky compared to other tri-state area since we have laxed tint laws and only back plate requirement.. i think in Jersey they said no tint is allowed on a sedan.. also I think NJ government is trying to ban smoking while driving...

Well, I haven't put on my rear plates for this reason. They can't give you a ticket for no front plate if it looks like you don't have your rear plates yet.

My buddy up in the bay area has a 3 year old Jeep Grand Cherokee that he has NEVER put the plates on and never been stopped for it. Still has the paper dealer plates on it. Classic!

Is it possible to attach the front plate without drilling the bumper? Maybe use double-sided 3M tape?

My number plate has been stuck on a with "stikkatape". It's special tape used to stick trimmings on cars and things like that. It's basically the same thing that they use to stick on the 330i badge.

I rolled two pieces accross my num plate

and stuck it to my bumper!

If I ever want to take it off, I can...Just need a solvent for the glue residue!

I've gotten a ticket in my 7 from Manhattan Beach PD for no-front plates and tinted windows on the front. Both were fix it tickets...

My wife and I have not used front plates in about 6 yrs and ticket free. I have been pulled over for many things (speeding and tint) and they never say anything about not having a plate. If you have a nice car and are not a kid they really dont care. They like to mess with kids about stupid stuff near the beach.

I am in SD and have never had a ticket for it. My father in law got one in balboa park, however.

99% of the time, cops will not pull you over purely because you don't have a front license plate. On my jalopy I took off the front plates after denting it in a parking lot fiasco. Had it off for...two years? Can't remember.

A buddy of mines with a tricked out A4 that looked kinda ricey (red exterior with carbon fiber hood, black wheels, loud muffler) got pulled over in San Diego. The cop never mentioned why he pulled him over but I am more than 99% sure that the only reason he was pulled over because the cop had a grudge against obnoxious-looking cars. My buddy really didn't do anything wrong, but the cop inspected the entire car after he pulled my buddy over, and just gave him a fix-it ticket for not having the front license plates on. He had the plates off for about a week after replacing his front bumper from an accident.

Then again, I see so many Firebirds, Vettes, BMW 6's, 7's, and other cars without their front plates. That gets me assuming that it's ok as long as you're not driving a rice rocket that annoys cops. If you get pulled over for running a light or not completely stopping at stop signs (yup, they really do enforce that strictly for some anal cops) and you don't have your front plates, they'll for sure dock you for that.

P.S. - if you're a girl, you will most likely never get ticketed for not having the front plates on. Or tickets at all. Cops love girls and

LoL.. i have been pulled over 2x. On clairemont Dr, and Nimitz. Never got a ticket haha , Better knock on wood. ... I saw a mb Sl 500 w/ no front plates.. I agree that if you have a tricked out car you have 100x chance of being pulled over. I wish i didnt even have a front license plate holder, but .. too late now. I dont want drill holes. So.. i am just using the marque plate.

Agreed. You are more likely to get pulled over for some other minor BS infraction---if you are lucky you may only get a warning for that. But they will ding you for front window tint and/or no front plate. Both are fix-it tickets.

Yeah, Bella, girls get pulled over equally as guys get pulled over...but they rarely ever get tickets. My girlfriend and her friends were driving around at night by La Jolla Cove - they got pulled over by a cop who said they didn't make a complete stop at a stop sign. He let them go off without any tickets.

Then two blocks down, they did it again - no complete stop. So the cop pulls them over again. Admonished them again, no tickets. Off they went, and still drove like idiots. Cop probably got tired and stopped following.

Moral of the day: if you are driving and your girlfriend is in the car and you happen to get pulled over, quickly swap seats with your g/f. Only do this with dark 20% or lower tint for the rears. Tell your g/f to look pretty. Show cleavage. Kiss up. If the cop turns out to be a girl cop, then damn.

it depends on where u are. in west LA, i used to park on a residential street and the meter maids started giving out tickets for cars parked on the street with no front plate. in the past, u would only get a no front plate ticket on top of a bigger violation, like an expired meter but nowadays they catch u just for no front plate.
