R6 or GSX-R600?

I am getting a new bike in March and its between the Yamaha R6 and Suzuki GSX-R600. This will be my first bike. I don't care which one is faster. Mainly interested in which bike handles and brakes better. Any opinions on which is supperior in those catagories? Thanks.

those are both pretty darn fast bikes for a first timer, plus they're HUGE theft risks

I'd suggest something more sedate/easier to learn on/less desireable to theives

like an SV650, or honda 599.

the sound of a v twin is pretty darn nice so I'd lean you towards the SV

any bike, trust me ANY bike will be WAY above your abilities for quite some time. The limiting factor in handling and braking is the rider.

best of luck, and if you do go with the supersport, be carefull out there those are powerful machines!

I believe the R6 is supposed to have more of a "raw" feeling

My friend just picked up a 2002 R6 and says he has more fun compared to his gixxer 750.

Usually I disagree with Ward but he has given you good advice the SV650 is a great beginner bike. I have owned both the SV600 and R6 (04) and the r6 is way to much bike for a beginner.

I am a seasoned rider and the guys on the 250's still run circles around me at the track. Riding is all about baby steps.

Kawasaki have more power, Honda is more for handling, Ducati is not bad.

i believe the R1 does, not R6, my friend just got an 06 R6 in blue as his first bike back in june, it took him a while to get used to it but now handles it pretty well.

From what I've seen I would have to go w/ the R6 just because I know they re did some stuff for the 07 model year (smaller exhaust pipe, etc) and the thing is real sexy
