Buying BMW in HK
I saw the pricelist for HK e90:
http://bmwhk.com/com/en/newvehicles/...aloon-2009.pdf However, I have some real questions about HK cars: 1) How useful is the idrive/navigation for someone like me who only speaks/reads english? Can I enter addresses in english? 2) The navi is 30,000 HKD and M Sport is 60,000 HKD--are this prices at all negotiable? 3) Currently how negotiable are BMW prices? Will the dealer discount a few percent on price? 4) Is it better to buy one off the lot or order? I have owned BMW in Japan and US and in Japan you get a pretty decent discount (about 4-5k USD) if you buy one off the lot, but in US, the difference is only a few hundred. 5) How long is the warranty on new cars? Just sold my 335i M Sport and may get a 325i or a A4 2.0T which price out similarly atleast on the websites. Moving to Hong Kong in 3 weeks, but trying to do some research so any tips welcome. |

Not sure 2) The navi is 30,000 HKD and M Sport is 60,000 HKD--are this prices at all negotiable? The navi is 30000HKD. Depending on which model you purchase, there is additional tax on the options you choose. It's most likely going to be taxed at 85% or 100% so you could end up paying around $60000 for the nav and $120000 for the M Sport kit!! These prices are not negotiable but they have special offers from time to time, any BMW dealer would be able to help you out. A month or two ago, the 323 sedan came with a free sunroof and xenons and the 325 had the iDrive system. I suspect there would be more specials on at the moment towards the end of the year when dealers are keen to move 2009 stock or for you to purchase a Dec 2009 manufacture. 3) Currently how negotiable are BMW prices? Will the dealer discount a few percent on price? Not negotiable (for me anyway!!) but again, please enquire about their special offers. 4) Is it better to buy one off the lot or order? I have owned BMW in Japan and US and in Japan you get a pretty decent discount (about 4-5k USD) if you buy one off the lot, but in US, the difference is only a few hundred. Depends if you are fussy with options and colour. As I mentioned before, the ones off the lot will probably be sold at a discount at this time of year. They had a run-out sale on the 523i 3 months ago, the original price was $523000 and was reduced to $419000 (December 2009 delivery) - a friend of mine purchased one of these. Also, the list price for the X5 is $698000 but I got mine for $608000 (July 2009 production). 5) How long is the warranty on new cars? 2 years. First year's service is free and you can extend up to 5 years maximum (or 75000kms). Hope this helps and welcome to Hong Kong!

I think the run-out sale on the 523i's are for cars to be used in the HK East Asian Games this year before being sold. Having said that, it's an excellent deal and I wish I knew about it sooner!

there was a 325 promotion package with sat nav thrown in basically free. you might not need it but it will help the 2nd hand value when you come to sell the car. the 419k 523 is a great deal imo but I recommend you book a test drive to find out if you can live with the softness of the e60 in standard form. these cars in the promo are all pre-ordered and last I heard, there are only a few left left so you'd better hurry adn there wont be too many option for colors. euro has gone up, probably price will go up next year.

Akhter> Yes, the X5 I purchased was part of a special promotion for July and August 2009 manufactured vehicles. The $608000 was the price I paid and also for anyone else buying at that time. However, the discounted X5's dont have rear DVD and the roof rails are slightly different. Also, from September 2009 production onwards, the X5's have an updated iDrive system.
Stevensonlee> The East Asian Game cars were $399000... not long after these cars were sold, they released another 150 cars (brand new) for $419900.
