Hello All!

Hello fellow hong kong bimmer drivers!

wanted to say hello and wanted to share my 330 that i recently acquired over the summer...sad to say im away at the moment and won't be back for another two weeks to drive my baby

here's a pic of it....thinking of doing some stuff to it, but not sure what since there aren't a lot of 330's out there....any suggestions? i was thinking of chipping it...but i've read that the chip doesn't do much on the 330....

anyways just wanted to drop in and say hello to all!

330 was only available for 2006 models (E46 coupe and E90)

E92 didn't come out until 2007 which only comes in 328 and 335.

Hi kookieshk

Welcome on board...
Start working on your basic mods 1st, than you can move to the more serious ones...
Here is a general rule of thumb among the enthusiast. If your car is 100bhp, you would want it to be 150. If your car is 300 bhp, you will not be sleeping good until you chip it or 400bhp, and so on...
Mods are for a thrill, rather for the real mean of performance... It is a man toy after all, an expensive toy but with a tremendous potential..

I was born in HK but moved away when I was little. My Dad was a cop there and he told me that any modified cars could be towed for inspection and possibly impounded. How strict are the police now in HK? Can you get away with body kits and aftermarket wheels?

The Cop will tow your car because you've got mods on it??? I never heard of this before...
I don't think the Cop have anything to do with what you do with your car as long as you respect the TD road rules & regulations..

thank you all for the kind words!!
hong kong is strict, but i've never heard of that....but im pretty sure your dad is talking about the really crazily modified japanese cars, and i guess its more strict in a sense that within the first 6 months of owning the car you can't do any alterations to the car without being taxed

Bimmer /E93 - the 330 is currently 272hp, im thinking of trying to add it up to 300...what would you suggest? I've heard chipping it is a cheap and effective way to add hp but it only adds maximum of 10hp...any suggestions would be highly appreciated! thanks!!!

Those are just scare stories

Unless your car looks like one of those show cars at SEMA you're not going to get in trouble. PLENTY of modded cars in HK

Hi, don't trust this kind of threatening non sense story...I have my E92 335 modded like the way I was doing it when I lived in the States and never ran into trouble......not to mention that, my rear red brake lights are tinted completely black.....and so as the wheels and other CF parts in my AW E92.... Also, I'm living in a place where cops are always there for shedule road checking as one the most popular spots for midnight Fast and Fabulous HK episode.....

I got stopped for a schedule check one night at around 2:00am after an US conference call while I was just 2 mins more to hit home...the cop was even asked me how much I bought for the rims and I've told him, I-Forged....US made Forged wheels... In fact, I have a few college buddies whose are now senior police officers and they modded their cars even more crazy than I do as they spent decent 7-10 years studied in the N. America like me... so, don't buy this story at all!!

By the way, very nice AW E92 330..... perhaps, we shall say Hi some day when we met on the road!!

kookieshk: I am not quite sure if there are many mods for the Non 335 E9X. But what I can think of is:
1. Upgrade your OEM (K&N) Air intake to a cold Air Intake
2. Get the BMS Power box, it makes a lot of difference and it is way better than the SB
3. Run a Dyno to check if you really need a Performance mufflers. Though, to get to a better output result, you will need to change your X pipes as well
4. Change your Throttle Valve (Tuner shop involved)
4. Work on your Manifold Vacuum power (You need a good tuner shop for that)
5. If you've got the $$.. get a super charger.
You can consider a 3.0 stroker kits, it includes (3.0 crankcase, 3.0 crankshaft, 3.0 conrods, 3.0 pistons + new rings

Emm.. I am not sure what else you can get to Mod for extra real bhp...

Good luck and keep us posted

Perhaps, he should ask himself how he wanted to put the gained powerband in his car in conjunction to his driving habits......he may spend big $$ to add that 30-40HP on crank (w/o counting the drivetrain lost) but on the high rev of 6,000-7,000 rpm which for a guy like me seldom used....... Nonetheless, the gain is actually there....

Officially all mods have to be inspected and certified by Transport Department before the modded cars can be on HK roads, as any mods will deviate from the registered specifications in the office, for road safety sake.

However at the same time, we are also clear that how strict our Police is executing these rules, especially on European cars. Agree with Freak that many officiers themselves love cars and mod cars too, so we should know how this game is to be played

At roadblock or whatever, show a bit respect to make the situation easy, otherwise they have the rights to detain our modded cars for a few days inspection, which gives no fun at all. Use the rights or not, it is totally up to them.

Not to say if our mods are on FD, DC, EK, R34...

I strongly agree with this.

And in fact, for Brake, for intake , for exhaust, just about any sort of modification that have effect on performance, the car needed to be examined. This is what BMWHK told me.

Lots of great ideas!! And I totally agree with the time over money comment! HAHAHA!!! It's like...asking when can I have my car back instead of asking how much it will cost! I've heard that due to the NA engine, there's not a lot of stuff that can be done to the 330 like the 335, and have heard that the Powerbox is one of the more effective and cheaper solutions to upping the hp for the engine as well as the performance. What places do you guys normally go for these type of mods?

-kookieshk.

btw - im from the hong kong side....and 335 freak...if you're on the island side give a shout if you see a 330 i shouldnt be hard to spot if you look closely cause a lot of the e92s in hk are either 323/5 or a 335!!! and i dont think i'll miss your car on the street since its so beautifully done!

I quite agree what you said....... that's very true especially for our Bimmer drivers/owners...... In fact, I have pretty much the same attitude though!!! Nonetheless, most tuners in HK won't be carry stocks for our performance parts and I've told my friendly garage, if you can have the cash for stock, especially for our Euro New Cars.....you can charge those customers 15-20% higher and they will pay so long as they don't have to wait!!!!

Kookieshk, Yup....I do travel to the Island side quite consistently in a weekly basis even though, I'm not working there.... I agree that, there is not much 330 E92 in HK and whilst, I should be easily to identify you.....Hope I can grab back my car today or latest by tmw as I'll be the guniea pig to try the HK CF interior wrapping......see if they can do the same quality job as ppl done in the States!!!! I'll take some pictures to share w/ you thereafter..

^ Hey Matt,

You doing the interior CF wrapping? Where did you get the CF fabric? You order it from the states? I was trying to find it locally, but couldn't find it here. I don't think it's hard to DIY for the wrapping. You might try working it by yourself if you got the time
