I Went to dealership with PBX

2 days ago I had a flat tire lights on and I figure there is a nail on my L/H rear RFT. I took it to the dealership and they changed a brand new tire for me FREE coz I was covered. They also did a free oil change and fluids top up for FREE. Before I took off to the dealership i removed the injen intake (15mins) and installed the stock intake (10mins). I also put my PBX on Map 0. And ofcoz they didnt find out anything about the PBX

Thanks! good to know.
I am wondering what will happen if they try to do some kind of software update though?

If you spent 25 min on take out the intake and putting it back might as well just do the same with the chip maybe?

The chip at Map 0 would be undetectable unless they physically investigated the car so no real reason to take it out.

Its invisible unless the ECU is physically opened. On map0 its set to bypass mode so the signals just pass through, hence its stock.

Thanks for posting and updating everybody. Its always great to have 3rd party verification

Just a question (I was reading the appropriate thread, haven't heard anyone mention this): how do you change settings on the PBX? Is it from within the cockpit? Is there a remote? A switch? etc...

I believe there is a procedure involving the number of times you depress the throttle while the key is in and the engine is not running. I wonder - if a BMW tech is familiar with the tunes available and how to switch maps, he could try to switch to a non-pass-thru map and then hook up the car to the computer. Would he be able to detect the PBX at that point?

It is done with the gas pedal. Ignition is switched to "on" position (push start button with foot not on clutch, dash lights up) then floor gas pedal for 4 seconds or more to place PBX in "listen mode". Then push gas pedal quickly to the floor as many times as corresponds to map #'s (3 times for map #3 etc). Drive and enjoy.

Starting car in "listen mode" passes signal through PBX - no map.

So i've got what appears to be a faulty tacho, if they have to replace it, will they need to access the ECU, or just plug a new one into the wire? arggh, pain in the ass to remove both PBX AND injen

Sweet! I assume it remembers your last setting every time you start the car unless you change it?

Yep that's right. It remembers what the setting was when your turn the engine off.

The main thing is what cause the tech wants to pop all the covers to find out what has done physically to the ECU. I think it should a mind factor instead...things like if he sees a mod...intake...exhaust...or even when he steps on the gas and feel the car is unusually fast...then he would be interested on looking further into the ECU...

anyway that's just what I think

when doing this procedure, is there any notification that tells you what map # your definetly on, or that the procedure worked for sure. Or do u just do this assuming after u press the pedal 4 times you are gonna be on map #4

There is no visual feedback currently. Once you do it once you will see how intuitive it is and there really isn't a way to make a mistake

If you do think you made a mistake or lost count you can just start over and do it again.
