Decent deal or rip off?
I visited one of the dealerships in San Francisco Bay Area today and was given an offer for the following config:
330i/Arctic/Automatic/Premium Pkg/Nav Since the dealership does not have it, he has to get it for me from out-of-state. MSRP is $42,945, and his initial offer to sell is $1000 off MSRP. For a $4500 total out the door down payment, he has estimated the following options: Lease: 36 months, 12K miles - $600 + tax Buy: 60 months - $817/month Is this a decent deal or do you think it's a total rip off? Thanks in advance. K |

You can find a better deal. Use the calculator on the stickies thread.
For your specifications, you should be hitting $1500 over invoice, which would be $40,175, before taxes. After taxes and all fees, you should be paying $44,052. |

Squawks, thanks for the tip. It's a helpful calculator.
BTW, I have also checked the finance rate on bmwusa.com, and under the lease option with the same config and terms, the monthly is calculated as only $537/month! How accurate is the one on BMW's site anyway? Thanks. K |

Those finance calculators are obviously pretty accurate but you gotta make sure you're qualified for whatever rates you're basing your calculations off of.

I understand that for the buy/finance option. But what about the lease option? Under that category there are only 2 entries to key in: term and annual mileage. So I am just curious that as far as lease is concern, if the BMW lease calculator is accurate or not, or does the lease option vary from one dealership to another...

OK. So I got the clarification that this price includes all the fees. I am still waiting on him to tell me if this includes tax as well. In the mean time I am trying to figure out now how much over invoice he is asking for. So beyond the sell price, what other fees are there and how much is each fee? I know there are:
- destination fee and handling: $695? - MACO - roughly what's the percentage for the bay area? - title? how much roughly? - any other ones I am missing? Also, he claims that if it were a car he has in stock (mostly 325i's), he will have no problem giving me $750-$1000 over invoice. But since he needs to get it from out of state, it needs to be a bit higher... still bull? Thanks. K |

OK. So the selling price ($41,945) includes all fees except tax and license. How I can figure out how much license will cost me? Also, now I really need to know what all the included fees are (Destination fee: $695, MACO: ~2%?, what else?) so that I can figure out how much over invoice I am getting.
So I am correct with the above fees, then: Net = $41,945 - $39,000 (invoice price) = $2,945 Destination fee = $695 MACO = estimate to be 2% of invoice = $780 Therefore, net profit = $2945 - $695 - $780 = $1,470 over invoice Does it sound more reasonable? If I pass on this, the next shipment of my desired configuration will be beyond 9/1, which will then see the price increase. So just want to know if this still sounds reasonable... K |
