Does Stock 189 Wheels Clear FK Silverline Coilovers without spacers??

I know that a lot of folks run into issues where higher offset (35 and up) wheels rubs the coil spring when turning. Most add a 5mm spacer to resolved this but I am not sure if the stock 189's would run into this problem at 18x8 ET34.

Anybody have first hand experience?

Alan

I can't speak for FK Silverline Coilovers since I got KW V2. They even cleared (just) my new 20".
Front is 20x8.5 with 235/30/20 Falken 452, and I measured the front offset to approx ET42-43. I now have 10mm spacers for a more flush look.

So I can't imagine you having problems with the OEM wheels, if so you got the wrong brand of coils.

I had FK's on my e92. I ran the original tires without spacers, but I had a little more than "1-finger gap". ..probably 3/4". At the time, the installer told me that if I wanted to go lower the tire/wheel would rub with the strut. When I switched to VMR with et35 I had to put a 5mm spacer. Not sure if e90 and e92 offsets are that different, but if you have teh car's front slammed or at least less than 1/2" gap there is a chance that the wheels will rub against the spring perch.

BTW, FKs are great...not a "wrong brand". Different coilovers have different spring perch sizes, that's all

^ I think I will start with some 5mm spacers.

I have Silverline plus and 19x8.5 et.30. So I imagine with OEM 18x8 et.34, a 5mm should be just enough.

^ so youre saying without a spacer they will not clear?

the 5mm spacers dont have the hub ring on them which can cause vibrations, if i do get a spacer its going to have to be a 10mm.

I am GUESSING that without the spacers, the wheel won't clear the perches. Like I said, I ain't no expert so I am not sure. I would just try it for real, and if it does not clean just order up the spacers. That way you can SEE and determine what kinda spacers you need.

I mounted H&R 5mm spacers with my front wheels for over a month before and had no problem with them, vibrations I meant. There are plenty of members here run spacers up front so I did not worry. The only reason that I took them off was that the tires rubbed my fender (even after fender rolling) slightly when I hit deep dips, I got annoyed by it.

Gotcha, do you think the 10mm would be too much and rub the fender or rub on dips like yours did?

I afraid so, unless you go with very stretching tires. If I need new tires down the road, I would consider something more stretching and might put my 5mm spacers back on.

Another thing is E92 has plastic front fenders, and not metal fenders like the E90s. So if I were you, I would be more careful with rubbing issue. There was a member here who broke of a piece of fender before.
