As a service advisor at a BMW dealer, I am seeing about three 135, 335, 535, and X6s come in for this issue per day.

My 2008 has been perfect so far at 19,500 miles. I am considering installing its used pump into the 2010 335 I just ordered.

3 per day. Thats pretty bad and thats just for your dealership. I just ordered a 2010 335i coupe and this is making me really scared and I am reconsidering buying the car. I heard I can cancel it and they will refund me the deposit and I guess they will just try to resell the car. I am assuming the 2009 and 2010 models are still having this issue?

I had an 08 335i E90 which had 4 HPFP problems within 12 months, BMW NA gave me an 09 LCI 335i and I've had 3 HPFP problems in 8 months...I'm currently in litigation process with BMW NA.

I am relaxed. I am just curious because I don't want to drive a car in the freeway and then all of a sudden my car goes into limp mode and potentially get into an accident. I just want to see if this a high percentage of failures. Like 50%? I ordered my car but it hasn't arrived yet and I don't know if I should talk to the dealer on backing out. I really want the car, but dont want to change fuel pumps every couple thousands miles.

You will for sure have a fuel pump issue. I just took delivery of a brand new 2009 e92, one of the last 09's in socal. Within 750 miles I had a fuel pump. On my last e90, I had 3 fuel pumps! I told the SA I have been through this before and she bluntly said, "this won't be your first fuel pump with your new one.."

They are continously having an issue with the fuel pumps and it will be inevitable.. but the reason why I stayed with BMW is because this car is a beast. If it happens a couple more times then I will be parting out for good..

don't worry so much. most of the HPFP is because of the tunes people run. and if you keep it stock, you really don't have to worry about it. if you mod it and need a repair done related to the vehicles performance, I'd recommend you remove it only because BMW isn't as lenient with their warranties anymore. *according to one of my buddy's who is a tech at BMW*

most common problem is that HPFP and the leaky injectors = misfiring idle in the morning.

but like I said, stock wise, you don't have to worry at all.

Are you serious? Most of the people here with their fuel pump issue is because they modify their engine components? I don't plan on modifying my car much. Just exterior.

Not true. Since the time I've joined, there is no common pattern of HPFP failure. People tried to pin point to what tier gas, what tune, blah blah, etc. but there is really no correlation.

I had my pump go out at around 30k miles. I'm at 47,000 miles now and the 2nd pump is still fine.

I second this. Faulty HPFPs are happening regardless of having a modded e9x or not; PERIOD.

It's happening globally on all N54 cars (135, 335, 535)..

I just checked the service records on the CPO e90 I picked up last month, and going back through I found that it had the HPFP replaced at 24k miles, and then again at 28k miles. I picked it up with 33k miles, so only time will tell I guess. haha.
