Talking iDrive nav.. can it get traffic updates via cellphone?

hey guys. i'm new to the forum... havent gotten my e90 yet. waiting till september to see what "software" updates are going to happen before i order my e90. pretty much.. i'm in no rush yet to get the e90.

i have a few questions about iDrive Nav, couldn't find any thing on the search function.

i understand that the iDrive will work with a bluetooth enable cellphone.. that i understand.. but i am wondering if i am able to somehow get updated traffic conditions using my phone's internet capabilities?

It would be similar to the TOM TOM Go portable GPS sytem.. it is able to downlaod traffic updates via a bluetooth cellphone (as long as your cellphone service has internet capabilties).

so by any chance you guys with the iDrive Nav... are able to get real time traffic updates thru the bluetooth phones?

thanks!

That would be very interesting and cool if it actually works. Keep us updated.

The FM-radio in iDrive is capable of reciving TMC which is exactly the same function as the TomTom Go has except that it is recived as RDS-data instead of a data connection from your mobile. I don't kow if the radio stations i USA is transmitting TMC but here in EU they are. At least in some contries like Germany and Sweden. The TMC info is transfered to the Nav which will present it on the screen and also dynamically re-rout if needed.

Indeed Swede.
TMC is broadcast across UK radio stations as well.
It was working well in a 325iSE e90 I test drove a few months ago. Roadwork signs popped up in a few places as I was driving along & the route changed accordingly.

As far as I know, the only integration between the SatNav system and a cell phone is that you can, for example, pick an attraction, hotel, BMW dealer etc, set it as your destination for navigation, AND place a call to them directly from the Nav screen if you so wish.
