Just bought MoS Anthems Electronic 80's - it's a real mind-jogger. Good times.
Sat at home, bored and comfort eating, so it's cheering me up a bit!

Like the idea, but I think it's probably the wrong song. Too much of an anti-war protest. They could have had 'Wake Up' (Matrix theme) or 'Take the Power Back' from the same album I think that the x-factor is incredibly bad for the music industry as a whole. It stifles creativity and rewards conformity. |

I'm loving the fact that this track is currently number 2 in the charts! http://www.livehits.co.uk/

This approach could end up being counter productive. The more people buy and download RATM, the more the 16million 'X' factor viewers will buy and download Joe Northerner, so Simon Cowell wins whoever ends up being number one at Christmas.

Send a message to Cowell now it will make him think for years to come (despite having masses more cash this year than last) Whereas otherwise the X-Factor will continue until the end of time. I'm not saying buying RATM will stop next years X-Factor at all, but it does mean Cowell and co can't ASSUME they will get to number 1 and it will wipe a few smug faces. Cowell is SO RICH that its financially inconsequential whether he has Christmas number one or not, the fact that if he DOESN'T will hurt his pride is far more valuable to people like me who hate the X-Factor and far more damaging to him. It will also lead to MANY people struggling to find words in both the aftershows and audtions etc next year... they wont QUITE be able to call Joe the Number 1 phenomenon that they could about Leona, Alexandra etc. Matt |

In fact, the 'X' factor is so stage managed, feeding different stories to the press every week that it wouldn't surprise me at all if Mr Cowell is behind the RATM release as well. This from the BBC...
"Rage Against The Machine, meanwhile, are signed to Epic Records, which is part of Sony BMG, the same label as McElderry." |

You really don't think he will care? It's his biggest show, all timed around the build up to Christmas with the intention of having a Christmas number 1. I think he would be severly pissed off, and am therefore buying 2 copies of RATM.

Wrong (in my opinion), the only intention is to generate as much money as possible. The Christmas timing just boosts record sales because people buy more CD's at this time of year.

Cowell is now so rich that it is entirely irrelevant to him where his acts place, and as suggested in the 'someones brother knows this guy who owns that label that once owned 49% of BMG back in 1989 etc' type link, no matter what happens Cowell will still win financially. The point here is (and anyone who disagrees with this is delusional, opinion or not) that Cowell is INCREDIBLY proud, cocky and arrogant and to take ANY band from Mr Blobby, to Jedward, to RATM, to Iron Maiden (who had a good pop at him with the re-release of the Trooper) and beat him to number one WILL hurt. He might consider it just good sport, and he might take it like a gentleman (in fact I expect he will) but deep inside it will burn just a little! Course the problem is, if Joe still gets to number one, Cowell WILL make a point with statements about how MASSIVE X-Factor is and how 'The Public really came through for him' etc and that will just make it worse next year. Oh, plus Joe will be Christmas number one, don't doubt that for a second. Matt |

Who cares ?
I don't understand why people take umbrage and slight over the percieved belief that someone else is "cocky" and "arrogant" and thus needs attacked to knock them down (hurt ?) - even if that means attacking the young lad who is starting his career ? Sour grapes ? Someone that can't be taught a lesson at the lights in your BMW ? Wee men. The general public clearly enjoy what he does. He pulled in simply HUGE viewing numbers at the weekend (even if I have never yet seen an X-Factor show, by choice). The public will buy the records, not him. Hats off to him. His time will pass, but not due to an internet campaign, it just gets him even more free publicity .... D.

I don't think he did. But then you probably think I'm missing the point as well. I still stand by suspicion that Simon Cowell is behind the internet campaign to get Rage Against the Machine to number one for Christmas. Quotes from the BBC News website such as...
X Factor judge Simon Cowell has criticised the internet campaign, calling it "stupid". Prior to the final of the ITV talent show, he said: "I think the campaign's aimed directly at me." smack of his previous comments like how he'd leave the country if Jedward were to win X Factor - like that's not going to generate lots of phone calls. At the end of the day he's a businessman and like him or loathe him (as many do), he's an extremely successful businessman. |

I was at a Marillion gig last Sunday (now THERE'S a proper band for you, unlike the short term pap that X factor creates) and the lead singer (Steve Hogarth) got the biggest cheer of the night when calling Simon Cowell a t**t. So yep, he's disliked all right. Mike. |
