My Winter Setup - 17" Rial Salernos / Blizzak LM60's

Came home yesterday and found the UPS guys unloading my winter setup I'm rolling Blizzak LM60 225/45 tires on 17 x 8 Rial Salerno wheels. I think they compliment my rig nicely. Took them out for a spin in 35°F weather after getting them mounted...definitely a different feel than my 19" Potenza RE050's I'm ready for some snow now to see how they do what they do best! Thanks to Gary at the Tire Rack for helping with the order. Anyone on the fence about ordering from TR, take note...I received 50% off one of the wheels due to a small gouge, this was negotiated with no hassle whatsoever. A big to customer service for taking care of that credit!

I've been running this setup for a week now and can say that I'm still pleased. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to give them a go in the snow yet - drove through some fairly heavy flakes, but it wasn't sticking to the roadway... Put about 500 miles on them this past weekend and pushed them up to 130 mph...that's all I really cared to do speed-wise, the compound on these tires definitely makes them feel like marshmallows at that velocity. As mentioned by others on the forum, Blizzaks are pretty spongy compared to the average summer setup, I'm starting to get used to them though and it's worth the performance trade-off for inclement weather piece of mind.

Tire Rack threw them on for me. They were $11 a piece. I'm sure if you call Gary he'd set you up.

Here's the sticky thread where Gary talks about them:

No problem, glad to offer the info. I'm running the fronts at about 40 psi and the rears at 45 psi. This is sort of in between the <100 mph and >100 mph recommendations.

Wow, 40-45 PSI?!

Why so high? I have been running 32 PSI on my 17x8 rial Salerno's with Blizzak LM-22's. Am I doing something wrong?

32 psi might be a little low. The recommended psi figures found on the sticker on the inside door frame lists 33/41 (front/rear) for under 100 mph, and 41/48 (front/rear) for over 100 mph. This is based on sport package and 18" wheels. However, I'm running 17s now with my winter setup and I run 19s for my summers...so I'm sorta in between. Obviously the higher the pressure the harsher the ride, but better for snow traction and higher speeds.

Did you mean to post this on this thread...or maybe as a separate post in the Wheels and Tires Forum?

I'd say it's definitely ok, especially if that's what the door badging reco's. I'm far from the expert however. I would defer to some of the more knowledgeable forum members. You could always give the friendly folks at the Tire Rack a ring also.

Thanks. I'm patiently (sorta..) waiting for snow here in STL...27% chance of snow on Christmas day...that's it for the 10-day forecast...
