Voice Command on the I-Drive
I thought our I-Drive with voice commands was cool in the e90 until I sat in my friend's Acura RL. There are hundred of commands its navigation system understands. For example, "Show me the nearest italian restaurant" and it lists out out all the nearest italian resturants. You can even provide a telephone number and it will pull up an address (businesses ofcoarse).
Having said that, I know we have only a few commands we can use. Or am I missing something, is there a way to program our Nav to accept more voice commands. Thanks |

What's most disappointing is that my wifes 04 Acura already had that ability. Why is an 06 BMW so far behind. I have not used i-drive yet but from everything I read it sounds years behind the Acura navigation.

Ahh it comes with the territory....
What BMW loses in technology it makes up in every other aspect over the Acura. I had a 2002 Acura TL, granted the 2004+ TL is much nicer, more advanced etc. but it still has mechanical problems and just overall is made poorly. |

Other useful commands I have used are: <Communication Options> followed by <bluetooth> when about to set up a phone. Hunting for this in the menus is a PITA. <Guidance on> to make sure she's not asleep <Guidance off> to stop her making suggestions when I know what I'm doing and it doesn't agree with her ideas <map direction of travel> when I quickly want a map view and I don't want to hunt through menus. This is typically when the going gets complex, and I want more than just arrows and voice

Print out the PDF, have the manual beside you and experiment with the car parked in "radio ready" mode. The other command I like is <never mind> PS I haven't yet found the command that will switch to a particular Sat Radio channel, have you? In <FM> mode you can say <frequency 94.5> but I want the Sat Radio equivalent.

here it is. it's in the "product info" booklet page 72
"Climate – Functions beyond those provided via the dash hard controls include heating balance for the available heated front seats, and (for when the car is parked) automatic ventilation" |
