Gritters
Just cruising along minding my own business when my car was struck by a load of rocksalt thrown out of a gritter passing in the other direction at about 50mph. Sounded and felt like someone had thrown a shovel full of gravel over the bonnet and drivers side. I wouldnt be surprised if its all scratched tomorrow when I look in the daylight

They are real bastards, I undertook one on the hard shoulder to avoid the spray. Seems a little extreme but it was in the middle lane of a motorway and spraying for all it was worth.
Was late at night though so no one about, bet the driver thought 'BMW tosser' |

Bloody nightmare when you see a gritting lorry.
Irony is, it snowed quite heavily here today and they haven't even gritted the main roads around my way. Like a skating rink out there now. |

Agreed. If I come up towards one (up in front) on the motorway I pull onto the hard shoulder and wait for a couple of minutes (yeah not supposed to, I know, but hey) then drive off at 50 ish so as to stay well behind them.
It is either that or being shot blasted as you overtake the buggers. Mike. |

we live on a hill with a horshoe type access road as you get to the top the road comes back down, off it right on top going down hill there is a culdesac as well, damm gritter comes and grits the main road so its all nice and melted but our culdesac is iced over.
Being down hill means all 20 houses are stuck and we cant get out, Being at number 1 I got out in the focus went down into town 5 mile drive to find a salt box and emptied half of it into huge plastic boxes and with neighbours we did it ourselfs. Effing council

If you ring the Highways dept and ask for bags of grit to be delivered to your location, I reckon you'll get some.

same here at the top of a steep hill, one grit box that we have to spread, no problem except they never put anything in it, when we complain they say " that one is not on our list" this year there was bit left in the bottom and the Bl..y pikeys nicked it! is there anything they wont steal? was thinking about witholding part of my £2000 per annum council tax, at least if they put me in nick i wouldnt have yo worry about the icy road, what really irritates me is that Gordy is very free with giving other countries our money the bas...d wants to look closer to home.

We've now got compacted snow with ice on top and a bit of snow on top of that - lovely!

I've got to laugh at some people, they are never happy, we moan that gritters are not out salting the roads and when they are out doing their job they moan about the fact their car is getting dashed in salt for a second or two? WTF is that all about??
It's winter, deal with it. |

No but I am an HGV driver, but that makes no difference
If your concerned about your car getting damaged by gritters in winter then buy a crap winter stinker car, as unsalted icy roads "can" be potentially far more damaging to your bodywork I'm in NY just now and the way they deal with snow puts the UK to shame, 10" overnight and you would never have known this morning, everything was moving freely and normally |

got onto the council today to ask for some grit in the box, basicaly was told they are too skint to give us any, that'l mean more council tax i suppose. add that to more Gordy tax to pay for the debt his mob has run up and im thinking i may well join the unemployed next year, the money and the hours are much better!

Watched the news today with everyone complaining about the lack of gritting in and around Bristol last night. Rock salt does not perform miracles. The temperature was -8. Everyone blames the council they can't drive on ice but no one has considered buying a set of Winter tyres ....... fuckwits. UK blame everyone else culture rather than looking closer to home for a solution makes me mad!!

road salt will not damage your car. it doesnt sound nice, but it will explode on impact. thats why cars are protected with laquer....
