Test drove a pre-owned 2002 M5. Amazing power and handling. the Check engine light and the tire sensor light went on during the test drive. Dealer said that it was due to the dealer prep, washing the engine and the fast cornering caused the tire sensor to activate. This was enough to scare me off from the M5. I've been on the M5boards (amazing board as well) and the maintenance cost after the covered period is unbearable.
Put my order in for the E90 330i for the peace of mind. |

BTW - If you like the M5, I'd suggest testing a 2004 used 545I manual (for the stick) or the Inifiniti M45 (great power delivery) as well.

I'd go for the new E90 as well. The M5 is a fabulous car and I love it to death, one of my favorite BMW's of all time. The long term maintence will kill your wallet not to mention you don't know how well the previous owner treated it.

let's look at the other side,
how often can you buy an M car?? A E90's nice and has a warranty, but it's nothing special, they're everwhere A M5 is a rare, special car. Most M5's have been owned by responsible older folks and I'd imagine most would be in good shape. It'd be a MUST to have a pre purchase inspection on the car to avoid any possible expensive problems it's a simple desicion, the M5 speaks to the soul, the E90 speaks to the wallet There's something special about an M car |

I would get an E90 now and trade it in for a new M3 or even a M5 when it comes out!
