floor jack for lowered cars
I picked up the Craftsman 2 1/4 ton floor jack at Sears this afternoon.
It fits (just barely) under my stock E90 330i ZSP. It'll work just fine for putting on my winter tires in the next few weeks, and taking them off come spring. My concern, is I plan to add some lowering springs next summer. I'm thinking that with a drop, the jack won't fit under my car. What floor jack do those of you with lowered rides use? Also, what size torque wrench is needed for our cars? 3/8" drive or 1/2" drive? And, what should the lug nuts be tightened to?

Look at the U.S. General Jacks. Highly recommended, great for lowered cars. But if you want a premium jack, I'd recommend: http://www.ac-hydraulic.com/uk/acdk13hlq.htm |

This is my jack: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00950240000 The nice thing is the large rubber pad at the lift point will securely hold the E90/E92 jack points without any wood blocks or anything. It's quite nice. I tightened the lugs to 88.5 lb/ft aka 120Nm, per what E90fleet said in another post. --gos

Edit: just dawned on me, you're referring to increasing ground clearance. I'd be worried about the stability of the car if it was resting on 2x4s personally...

ok makes sense... I guess my thought was that putting 1 wheel up would be fine, but having all 4 wheels up on 2x4s would make it less stable.... maybe.
Anyway yea, good cheap way to solve the problem.

Also thought I should mention I take the round thing off the end of the jack so its a flat plate not a round spinning thing! Take that damb thing off its worthless and with it the jack will not clear even with the 2x4's

Any comments on what size drive the torque wrench should have? Also, what size socket should I use for the stock bolts?

I have the jack pictured below. I lowered my car on H&R Sports and I can get this jack under my car no problem.
