floor jack for lowered cars

I picked up the Craftsman 2 1/4 ton floor jack at Sears this afternoon.
It fits (just barely) under my stock E90 330i ZSP. It'll work just fine for putting on my winter tires in the next few weeks, and taking them off come spring.

My concern, is I plan to add some lowering springs next summer. I'm thinking that with a drop, the jack won't fit under my car. What floor jack do those of you with lowered rides use?

Also, what size torque wrench is needed for our cars?
3/8" drive or 1/2" drive?

And, what should the lug nuts be tightened to?

I just made a simple ramp with 2x10 lumber.
Just enough to still get the floor jack under.

Look at the U.S. General Jacks. Highly recommended, great for lowered cars.

But if you want a premium jack, I'd recommend:

I bought a jack from Sears, their 1.5 ton model. It has a low clearance of 3.5" which fits under my E90 jack points with almost 3" to spare.

This is my jack:

http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00950240000

The nice thing is the large rubber pad at the lift point will securely hold the E90/E92 jack points without any wood blocks or anything. It's quite nice.

I tightened the lugs to 88.5 lb/ft aka 120Nm, per what E90fleet said in another post.

How do you change your wheels with your car resting on 2x4s?

Edit: just dawned on me, you're referring to increasing ground clearance. I'd be worried about the stability of the car if it was resting on 2x4s personally...

ok makes sense... I guess my thought was that putting 1 wheel up would be fine, but having all 4 wheels up on 2x4s would make it less stable.... maybe.

Anyway yea, good cheap way to solve the problem.

I drive just the front wheels up on the 2x4's as shown!! this makes my jack clear in the front and rear!! no need to do anything to the rear!

Also thought I should mention I take the round thing off the end of the jack so its a flat plate not a round spinning thing! Take that damb thing off its worthless and with it the jack will not clear even with the 2x4's

Thanks, I'm going to exchange the jack I picked up for that one this weekend. Not having to alter the lift point or set up piece of wood to drive onto is worth the $$.

Any comments on what size drive the torque wrench should have? Also, what size socket should I use for the stock bolts?

LOL..wow DUDE..if your car is lowered it doesnt matter what jack u have foo...u still have to get your wheels in the air to make clearence so the jack will fit under the jack points!!
And your wheels u need to use a 17mm with 1/2 drive!!!

Well your CO's are adjustable, adjust them for the floor jack!

That's the jack I have, it's on sale for $99 now at sears. That rubber pad is great, grips the jack points very well. I took a few photos of my swap to winter wheels with that jack here if anyone is curious. (To the ASA JH3's that were on TireRack as their special winter package for the E90)
