BMW motorcycles...have you lived yet?

Hey all, I just wanted to check with you on this subject. I came here(e90post) after years of BMW motorcycle riding and forums -BMW RT-. I love my 330i and this forum but sometimes miss the same type discussions on my previous forum groups dealing with the BMW motors. It's amazing how similar yet different they are. Dealing with modding issues- (called farkles), mechanical issues, and the unique BMW items apparently inherent with cars and bikes. If you've ever had experience with their motorcycles and the lifestyle of touring with them, you'll understand.

I also have a 2008 BMW R1200RT, and my son and I go touring around Switzerland, Austria and Italy. We love it and it is so much fun and comfortable. It also has GPS, Cruise Control, Heated seats, On board Computer. It is hands down the best Sport Tourer that I have ever owned. I currently have 8500 miles on the clock and have not run into any issues…(knock on wood)

1200GS here. Don't get it, Youtube won't upload a simple video (140 Mb, AVI), and this site won't take it. Too bad - nice going (I think) for a GS in southern France

I currently have a 2007 G650 X-Challenge. Before that, I had a 2005 K1200LT and a 2002 R1150GS Adventure.

BMW Bike and Car

Love my toys...

Car (2006 330i) and bike (2009 R1200GS Adventure) - both solid as a rock.
The only problem the bike has is failing fuel strips... Resulting in no fuel gauge availability. Just ride on the day-odometer... BTW, this puppy holds 9 gallons of fuel, ranging me close to 350 miles between fill-ups. It's a beast and a hand full, but love it to death! No regrets.

R1100RT's also quite a few municipalities are switching due to maintenance costs on other brands. I see quite a few around my commute.

I think they're R1200RT-P's now.

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedi...,5139606.story

I've had an R80RT, an R1100RT and currently have an R1200RT. None have ever required anything but maintenance.

I love the R1200 GS Adventure. It's a tough choice between that and the Ducati Multistrada 1200.

Wow, never knew that. Just figured they would use an American company.

I think I would get a bike if we didn't have some of the worst no looking, no signaling drivers of the whole state...

H-D was a contender. Indeed, the CHP gave HD an extraordinary amount of latitude to come up with a bike that could compete to the CHP requirements.

CHP even waited till HD came up with a working ABS system (a CHP requirement). Ultimately, HD lost; due to not being able to meet the top speed requirements - even though the Harleys had factory Screaming Eagle engine kits.

I am starting to see a lot of Honda ST1300-P on the road now.

Ahhh, you haven't looked at the new S1000RR? Base price within a thousand bucks of Gixxers and R1's. MotoGP technology. With Traction Control settings of Rain, Sport, Race, Slick and gear shift assist. Horsepower comparable to the new 'busa. In fact, one of the US motor mags rated the beemer better than the compared 'busa.

2010 BMW S 1000 RR Specs:

>> 193 hp @ 13,000 rpm
>> 83 lb/ft @ 9,750 rpm
>> 14,200 rpm redline
>> Dry weight of 404 lb.
>> Slipper clutch
>> Multi disc wet clutch
>> Race ABS & Dynamic Traction Control

My love of riding, obvious to some. Although I have never had the pleasure of owning a BMW one.

I dearly miss riding. Stopped back in 2005 due to wife (funny thing she liked riding w/me before we got married) and a previous med condition.

Always in my blood though.
