Freemasons. Remain popular in the UK?

I'm reading a book about them in the US, and the book suggests that many were pirates while operating out of Ireland and Scotland.

Freemasonry is more popular than you would ever imagine in the UK.

It's alive in the U.S, but I'm not sure how prevelant it is, and/or if it's morphed into other social clubs. My town , Atlanta, has a few temples and one very large Masonic Temple. Looks like a bank.

Only the sedan is available in the US, and I'm enjoying the car. The steering is a little lighter than I'm used to (I have non-sport this time around), but I'm happy with the trade off when it comes to riding over uneven pavement. The engine is so very quiet at hwy speeds. One thing that's very different from my E90 330 is the amount of open space in the driver side of the engine bay. Unlike my the 330 I can see all the way down to the engine mounts, the steering system, coolant lines, etc etc. There was no way I could see those things on the 330. Makes me wonder if the 335d engine block is narrower.

The car is a little louder when cold (which I expect from a diesel), yet I was wondering if all that extra space is also a contributing factor.

They have quite a substantial foot-hold in the UK, plenty of masonic influence in this country.

No doubt. I'm sure it's very prevelant in the US, but I have to tell you that in many areas it's seen as a lot of "hocus pocus" where grown men go play parlor games. It's not like it's the 1500's where men were fearing for their lives and having to seek refuge in the lodges. Eaerly U.S. history is covered with Freemasonary, but it's hard to determine what effect it had. It's akin to the "chicken or the egg" conundrum.

Here's an example of an "old" U.S. family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardiners_Island

I'm pretty sure my oldman use to be part of it before he retired. He seems to know loads about it all. Out of interest who would want to join a conservative club!!
