Oh noes! grinding noise on the left rear

car: 06 330i
miles 90k

Well one day out of the blue...a grinding noise ..metal to metal sound started happening when turning left BUT only when going thru bumps

I did my share of reading and saw a lot of diff fluid threads which seemed logic but somehow didnt fit in my issue due the fact that was happening when going thru bumps

then the sound happens now also when i go thru straight speed bumps...a harsh metal scratchin something

Yesterday i loaded my car with 4 ppl which i never do..and OH BOY the noise was almost EVERYTIME while driving....

I dont think its a blown strut...was reading about the RTAB ..thinking it has to be something in the lower part..cause the grinding noise is a metal to metal sound...maybe my exhaust? no clue...

If anyone has any advice will love to hear it

thanks

happy new year

I think i am having the same problem but in the front driver wheel. Same symptoms, usually turning left, almost always when hitting a bump and sometimes at random. It sound almost like a hissing, or very fine metal grinding and for some reason the outer edge of the tire has unusual wear.

I took it to the dealership, and i think they gave me a load of BS. They said they reproduced the noise and it was plastic grinding against the wheel, however, they could not access it due to some plastic in the way that they could not remove and then they tell me they saw over spray from a repair job. All in all they didn't explain shit to me. So i decided to take a look at it myself, removed the under panels and took a look, there were no signs of over spray no plastic or anything of the sort out of place in or around the wheel well.
So my best guess "with limited knowledge" is its the brakes or suspension i am going to take it back to them and this time have them show me what they are talking about, and have them check both those systems.

Found the fix!!!

well well..after months and months of thishorrible noise...I went yesterday for a mount and balance my new rear tires

And the non sense noise was gone!!!! yes gone... So my noise was because of the way the tire was worn...weird...but worked ..such a simple thing that was totally overlooked
