Has someone nearly crashed into you today?

Please be safe on the roads people. You may be competent drivers but there are far too many people on the roads who haven't got a clue, so take extra care and be cautious.

I hope no one's had a near miss or an accident. I know similar stories have been posted many times.

A nutter lady driver nearly caused what wouldn't been a pretty much a head on collision with my car because was driving way too quickly for the conditions and clearly wasn't alert.

She approached a L shaped bend (blind to an extent) way too quickly, then braked too late when she saw me. Might I add in a side road that has not been gritted, which is just the sort of place where you need to be cautious.

The car hurtled towards me head on around this bend and over 3 car lenghts. Proceeding to then slide at an angle that could have led her on to the pavement and into a tree. Finally coming to a stop barely inches away from me .

Just as well I was driving extra slow, saw her in time and stopped where I did well away from the turning.

Last February when it snowed I was driving in London, had been stationary at a set of traffic lights when a driver crashed into the back of a month old car I was driving at the time.

eeek! lucky escape mate!

This is what worries me the most about this weather, it's not my driving as i'm always cautious. It's the other numptys on the road.

You can't win though, some of them drive so slow on wet roads just because there's some snow on the grass next to them, yet others drive like maniacs.

The other day a guy down my street came hurtling down in his corsa, slammed his hand brake on and did a full 360 into his space on the road. It looked pretty impressive and as though he had been practicing it for years. Then I thought... twat! He could easily have got it wrong and hit somoenes car.

I'm sure its pure luck that he got it right, and doubt it was intentional.

Anyway, this is why I'm not driving atm. Insane conditions out there ...

smooth and cautious is the way to go, and keep off those brakes.

its a shame they dont teach you this for the test as there are too many people driving too fast for the conditions and dont know what to do when their car isnt going the way they want it to

someone will chirp up that in Germany you have to have x lessons on a skid pan etc etc

Im not in Germany but I think it maybe should be taught. People just don't know how to drive in these conditions (I agree that even I may fall into this category!).

That said, it's pretty rare we get such severe weather as we have now.

I agree with the OP. Doesn't bother me driving in these current conditions but it is the other silly gits who are also out there.

Sometimes it can be bad enough 'driving for everyone else' in decent weather, but this weather seems to serve to compound the problem further.

Yours.......a grumpy old git.
