Absolutely ridiculous imo. Yes the guy was speeding but come on.
More criminal imo to hog gold etc. from 60 odd years ago! Is there freedom of speech there. |

Of course the fine is insane but perhaps if we had more severe penalties for breaking the law the UK we would have a country with far less crime.........like Switzerland. |

I wouldn't speed to that degree in a built up area either, goes without saying. Really do not think that amount of a fine is necessary but then depends on the type of 'society' one lives in.
Our density of population and many other non 'pc' issues affect this country based on what I am told by serving police officers and what really goes on here. I'm all for the death penalty but it doesn't seem to have any great affect in the US for example. There is always a fine balance between repressing the populous and allowing a true democracy to reign.........or so history would teach us. |

To be fair the guy was repeatedly offending. Some people just flout the law. He was taking the piss - and found the law could take the piss rather more effectively.

This is crazy - I can't believe how strict the Swiss are!
When I went there last year, I drove at a good 100mph+ on the motorways so must have been very lucky! I won't be doing that again this year. A question if anyone knows...if you get flashed on the Motorway by a camera in Switzerland, can (and would) they actively chase someone for the fine who is in a British registered car. Also, what's the consequences if you don't pay it? As I understand it, an EU country is now able to chase you for the fine (although am I right in thinking that you still don't get points?) but in Switzerland you're not in the EU? |

But I have been flashed in a UK registered car I had in Switzerland (doing about 38 in a 30mph zone) and never heard a thing. Also had a big parking fine which I tossed out the window when taking the car back to the UK. A friend did the same thing with an old mini he had .... right up to the point they clamped him ! First time I, or anyone I know, has ever heard of anyone getting clamped in this area. But he did owe them about £900 - in a Mini worth £50 on a good day. Also gave my Swiss registered Jaguar to a friend who got flashed, as I was sitting in the passenger seat, in Edinburgh. I had some Lothian parking tickets which I just binned. Again - nothing. You have to weigh up how big your fine would be (in my case I would expect in both cases about £50) and how much effort it will take either authority to find out where you live and actually post you a bill, and try and make you pay it when you play dumb, requiring more letters. Too much fannying about to even bother I guess .... Lots more easy targets out there. Although I think Germany and Switzerland do co-operate a bit on it. Different if they flash you in Switzerland and have a chase car further up the road ....... Good friend of mine narrowly avoided Jail. Had to tippy-toe for a few years after that with a suspended sentence. But he was well into triple digits. I got zapped once in Bern a LONG time ago, in a trap with pace car. The wee woman at the post office sucked in over her teeth when she saw what I paid. But I thought I was lucky compared to other stories. Perhaps having British plates at the time helped. D.

I know that Holland, Germany, Austria and for sure some other countries have a arrangement with the Swiss. My sister living in Holland received 2 fines from the last visit to me. One of 200chf, one of 80 or so. Was an expensive visit or her. but then again, some places in Switzerland are know to be full with flashes, also on the highway: Basel, Luzern, Zürich... I had me first big fine here in Switzerland last year. I was flashed with 66 instead of 50. It was more then 550 euro... that hurts. annoyingly enough it was with a fixed flash which I know but for some reason I was speeding (going downhill) |

Only towards arse-holes that think they have the right to speed, while others don't.
I actually like their approach better. Slightly above the speed limit and you get a smack, driving like a cock and you get thrashed. There is no points system - although they will tear up your license if you are the above mentioned cock. Seems perfectly fair to me. If you drive appropriatley you will never have a problem. D.
