opinions on powder coating

hi all

just looking for opinions on whether to powder coat my alloys. i have the 230 style, and im thinking gun metal?? just to see if you guys think it would look good.....
either that or to buy a rep set of CSL in gunmetal!

or should i leave the wheels and change the exhaust to a Milltek first, well i guess that just comes down to me really. so opinions please...

thanks

Personally i would go for the exhaust if you are going down the modifying route...

After having a non resonated Milltek on my Golf R32 (which sounded amazing) i opted to go for the Milltek on the 335 partly also to the fact there was a lack of options available at the time. i can honestly say that i was totally underwhelmed by it. wherever i went in the R32 loads of randoms always commented on how awesome it sounded - i didnt get that with the 335. it just sounded 'dull' and not even much louder/aggressive either - greatest negative was that there was loads more resonance through the cabin at idle. dull perhaps mostly down to the fact its a not a N/A motor but either way it was a poor show.

next thing was the fitting - on the Golf it was perfect, despite me and a mate (well a mate did it all really, i offered visual support ) being complete noobs and having never fitted an exhaust before let alone got underneath a car did the whole cat back fitting on his dads ramp which he had in his vinery and went without a hitch. the 335 however i not only paid £80 for the local tyre and exhuast fitter to do but had also resulted in the fact that the exhuast was not made correctly - in fact i had learnt that ALL of them were made incorrectly. despite being fed a load of crap from a supposed BMW 'specialist' along with another forum member (in completely different instances i might add) i subsequently chose to personally waste a whole or two in order to get to the Milltek factory in Derby to have them realign the jig to get mine sorted - and others/future buyers. needless to say it seems by reading a thread on here this week they still might not have sorted it out TWO years on.

it does have power gains and does give aural feedback at higher revs for which i wanted it for but would i buy again? for all the hassle and bullshite i received... probably not

I left them alone!

I haven't seen 230's in any other colour.

so what exhaust would you recommend ive been quoted £807 for the Milltek inc fitting... so something for the same sought of money and power gains.

Didn't someone recently (or was it you?) post a picture of a titanium silver car with 230's? It looked mint.

wow, from what i recall i paid around £850/900 for the exahust alone so youre doing ok - it is the whole lot right and not jsut the back boxes?

RE what to get i honestly dont know to be honest so dont want to misinform you as i have no intentions to get another exhuast, plus i havent been keeping up to date with modding on e90post recently.

theres lots of systems out there now though - main downside is getting them imported with ridiculous shipping and tax costs for what could be percieved as minimal power gain. perhaps a BMW Performance one? im sure it wil be more than £800 tho. sounded like an Eisenmann from what i recall but without the drone.

i think for the money youve stated above youll struggle to find a cat back system for the 335 giving similar gains but then again a lot of stuff gets developed in two years! ....or you could get a set of catless downpipes giving a lot more power gains and more emphasised sound for (at the time i had my exhuast) i think) approx. the same price. the rest of the system is retained though - so it will look stock, might be a good thing, might be not? you could get a set of aftermarket tips welded on if you wanted it to look different though. the downpipes section of the exhuast are the most restrictive part of the system so if gains is what youre after thats probably your answer.

sorry if thats vague as im a bit 'out of it' as it were. e92fan (Tony) is the man to speak to

let us know how what you decide
