Exclamation thanks runflats !!

well today I was on the highway like at 100+ mph and suddenly the preassure light turn, on so I got out on the next exit and I was going to stop to check it out but I found my self on some getto place and a group of black guys start looking at me(I'm not racist in any way but I'm white and I was in a black neighborhood ! ) , and I was like "fuck it" there is no way I'm going to stop so, I was going to do a U turn and I see that the ramp is close so I had to follow the detour, well the detour took me more intro the getto place so after like 10 mins I got back on the highway and like 15 mins later I see a service station so I stop to check it out I had a big ass nail on my tire, so I have a pressure monitor on the kit that I had from my old car, so I check the air preasure of the tire I was not able to get a reading no air !!! is impressive how the tire has not lost his shape and it feels really hard

so I just got home SAFE that the must important thig, I have to go to the dealer to get a new tire, I guess is going to be around $350-400

but the did what they were supposed to do keep me safe

I'm trying to imagine what would had happen in the same escenario with out RFT, at 100+ mph or if I had to get out of my car on the getto place to change the tire

maybe it can be repair but I don't think is safe I did almost 35 miles w/out air!!!

here are some pics of how the tire looks

No, Don't stop complaining about overpriced tires that have an absurd 140 treadwear rating. The fact that the sidewalls are so stiff makes runflats more likely to suffer damage and costly failure just like this, because the tire does not "give" when it rolls over something in the road. Boy I'm looking forward to surprise $400 tire bills plus lost time and inconvenience.

The short story is that runflats should be entirely optional. If you think runflats are for you, great, knock yourself out and order a car with them and njoy your heavy, short life, damage prone tires. But don't make a unilateral decision for everyone everywhere to exclude normal $140 tires with a treadwear rating 3X longer than what runflats offer. I have no ghettos around, no express lanes, and can change a tire safely if the need arises, and it does not arise often enough to justify them in my case. I can always call some grease monkey to do it for me if I'd rather not. Runflats are NOT for everyone, and BMW needs to learn that.

I agree that runflats should be optional, and that a car that was already factory equipped with runflats should still have provision in the trunk for a space-saver spare. But as for the 140 treadwear rating thats only a problem on the summer version, my all-season Contis are rated to 400

At that speed, it would have been a pretty dangerous blowout! If you survived that, you would have had a tough time in that neighborhood. Now, imagine you are a female and the same thing happens....

Wolfsburger, hate to tell you but the 140 treadwear rating is because you have summer performance tires, nothing to do with run flats. The also come in all seasons with respectable life.

Tire insurance really pays off with ranflats.

Looks like you need new tires anyway! The inside tread is almost gone.

I paid CDN$500 for $5000 in coverage. Small price to pay now for peace of mind.

All-seasons will have M+S somewhere on the sidewall, indicating mud and snow traction capabilities. Also if you look at the tread itself, summer tires are "blockier" while all-seasons have little micro-sipes all over the place.

those tires in the pictures are the Bridgestone Turanzas, which are all seasons. The rear wheel drive cars with sport have summer tires, all wheel drive sport cars have optional summer tires.

Wow it didn't occur to me that the tire shown in the photos are all-seasons. They're so worn down that I thought they were summer tires when I first looked.

Calvino how many miles have you put on them?

Yours is an all-season judging from the photos that you posted. The All Seasons for Bridgestones are Turanzas while the summer tires are Potenzas.

Get online and order a new tire pronto from TireRack and save a bunch. Given the amount of wear, you might want to consider new set of 4. Gasp.

that's what I was thinking but this is the problem I know a guy in the dealer that told me that he would race my speed limit to 155 (I'm non-sport so I have a 130 limit or so) if I get a higher speed rated tires. I'm checking TireRack and I select to show me V rating tires and above but I only see summer tires, but for what I read before summer tires wear faster so I don't know what to do

Well... I don't know your uses for the car but I don't see myself ever needing even the 130mph limit in North America, I'd go with the Conti all-season runflats with the 400 treadwear rating.

Why didn't you try any plug it or to get it pathed instead of buying a new tire? I know that it depends on how far you drive it but I have had 2 nails and running just fine but I was also within 5 miles of the repair store. Good to carry a plug kit just in case.

I went to Goodyear and a military facility and they had no problems pluggin the holes. Now if its in the sidewall then you are fucked! I just can't bring myself to replace the RFT's everytime I pick up a nail.
