shipping a car from another dealer
I was told there's no car in Socal that meets my specifications, but my CA found one sitting at N.Calif(maybe @other dealer? ), saying if I need the car, then I'll have to pay for trucking it in and costs around $600 or so.
Is it normally what customer should pay for? and $600 for shipping from north california to Socal? does it sound right? Also I'm concerend what if the car comes in not a perfect condition or say like there's too many miles on the car when it's delivered? cuz it is delivered by my request, then I still should take the car no matter what? since it's like I'm ordering it without seeing its condition in person, so I'm kinda worried about that, too. anyone with same experience please give advise what to do. Thank you guys! |

My dealer paid the $500 shipping charge from Montreal to Toronto. If they want the sale, they'll pay for the shipping! Better than losing the sale. And they should flatbed it, not drive it.

Don't pay for the $600.....my dealer flatbeded my 330i from out of town for free.....my car came with only 3 miles on it. Whatever you do....make sure it's not driven down to you....if you refuse to pay for the shipment. If they refuse to pay for the shipping.....go somewhere else.

Mine paid the shipping as well, and even then if there is something wrong with the car and you don't like it you can still refuse it. Mine had something wrong with it but they fixed it and I was satisfied. But I could have re-ordered or taken the next one off of a ship that met my specs.

I think it would depend on the distance and the dealer. Nocal to Socal is a loooong way. Why should they eat the cost? Also, they will likely transport it on a flatbed, so the car won't be "driven" down. Just in case - I would insist on that! Bottom line is it's up to you. If the car you want is that close and it's worth $600 to you not to wait 8 weeks then do it.

i say don't do it. i would worry about going thru all the hassle and getting a car that is not in perfect condition or has more miles than you expect.
also, have u checked with other dealers in your area? in my experience, the dealer always looks at their inventory first, then they say they can get the car for u from other dealers by searching their national database. it happened to me and guess wat, i went to another dealer in the same area and they had the car with the exact options in stock. so don't believe in the salesman if he claims that he has searched all of so. cal and can only locate one in nor. cal. |

Dealers in the same area don't always get along well and are not always willing to do this. Why send the car across town and lose the business? As far as miles on the car, they will be able to tell you exactly how many miles it has on it - and they will CARRY the car down, not drive it.

My dealer told me that it's an exchange program, so there is no loss of business......I give you a 330i....in return you give me another 330i with the same option...but maybe different in color...or trim.

I am also having my e90 transported from another dealer. My dealer told me they would pay the transport estimated at $700-800. However, they want me to pay MSRP. I guess it evens out. I do expect my car to come in good condition with an acceptable amount of miles on it. If not, I will wait for another car.

Well, I picked up my car today. It was in perfect condition with 3 miles on the odometer! I paid MSRP and they paid transport. I'm not too dissaointed with the deal because they gave me the trade in value I wanted for my 530i. The dealer should be able to give you all the information on your car, including the mileage before it arrives.
