Website advice wanted.
I have a friend who wants to sell some of her furniture designs on the internet.
She's a student so it needs to be free or cheap! I'm not sure of her IT skill level but I would guess the easier the better. Any ideas or recommendations?

If its a website she wants and she is already at college why doesnt she ask one of the IT students to make her one.
Im quite sure they would be able to knock up one for her though it wont be the best, but if she wants secure payment facility added etc to the site then this may not be the best place to do it. There is also the option of the online places that you can build your own site with. |

If she is fairly savvy, she could use this free software as a basis :
http://www.magentocommerce.com/ the community version, open source. Would require a host with PHP and MySQL. But geared up as sales software. If she knows her way around CSS, HTML and PHP she can customise to fit. Or look on the web for free themes. Would beat any student's version hands down. Too many variables to cover nowadays (CSS and payments systems that work in all Browsers is a nightmare to test). Or she could go very simply and use a free CMS : http://www.joomla.org/ Again requiring PHP and MySQL. Or .... to get started look at pre-installed eCommerce packages : http://order.1and1.co.uk/ starting at a £5 a month. D.

Me and some mates just finished this website and whilst it's miles from entirely complete, we got to this stage using a basic template and a bit of elbow grease!!
Just went live tonight so go easy!! http://www.pixel-junkies.co.uk/index.html Matt |
