help with gate opener

I'm trying to program my community gate opener to the buttons on the car. I read the manual. I did the part to clear it. It says after you clear it, to press and hold down your desired button and hold your opener simultaneously until the slow flashing turns to quick flashing. I tried this many times at different distances and it still doesn't work? What do I have to do?

I had to try this multiple times - it was all about the distance...6" away just to the left is what worked...JD

If the gate is on a rolling code, you're pretty much screwed, unless you can get access to the programming button (much like your garage).

yeah I had this problem. Look at your remote and goto the companies website. Mine had a rolling encrypted code and it won't work for this. The BWM opener is meant for consumer grade doors. It sucks but be glad though you wouldn't want anyone to be able to clone your openers.

you can get a rolling code to pair. you will have to ge the signal sent from the actuall device that you are trying to operate. the problem with that is that it will usually reset all of the other remotes that are paired.

I tried to get my 335 to pair up with my garage opener and it's not working either. My wife's Acura paired up already but can't get my BMW do pair up.

Any suggestions? I am not familiar with rolling codes etc.?

Htown: Do this.

1. Clear your Homelink (Buttons 1 and 3 for 30 seconds)
2. Pick which button you want to program your garage door opener to.
3. Hold the garage door opener within 6 inches of the homelink system (closer is advisable).
4. Press and hold both the button you want to program and the garage door opener. Cycle the garage door opener every 5 seconds, until the Homelink blinks rapidly.
5. Then, go to the main unit (where the motor is) of your garage door. There should be a learning button on the back.
6. Make sure your car is close, as this requires some timing.
7. Press the learning button, get into your car and then cycle the same button you pressed before on the Homelink system about every 3 seconds. When your garage door starts opening/closing, your programing is complete.

Let me know if this works for you, or if any part is unclear.

do you have to turn on the ignition in order to program the homelink? the manual seems to suggest so. I too am unable to program homelink to open the gate to the complex or the garage.

yes you need power; just turn it to ACC; key in foot off brake and touch start button for 1 sec.

Yeah, just start the car to be safe.

Does anyone know how to program the homelink with the "front gate"...I saw the "reset" button...but i'm not sure if that also works as "learn" button....I don't want getting my ass whopped by the HOA by resetting the front gate....

You mean the gate for your community, right? I programmed it for mine.

Your gate might be different, but for mine it programmed without pressing any button on the gate. It took a few tries to program it. Make sure you cleared the homelink buttons. Then all you do is hold which button you want and the gate opener. I had to click the gate opener button (like slowly then quickly) while holding the homelink button until the yellow light showed that the code got saved.
