Arctic Metallic - Same on Coupe and Sedan? Photos?
Hi,
I have just ordered 335Ci E92 in Artic Metallic and I am still doubting about the colour. First Ive seen it in the configurator and I loved it, then seen it person and loved it too. Look on the attachments, the car Ive seen looked like that, it was light blue... After ordering the car, Ive seen some 3er sedans and 6ers in this colour and it seemed to be more green than blue. Is this colour the really same on coupe and sedan? And other BMWs? The car (coupe) Ive seen was really blue, everything I saw later (not coupes) was more green and I didnt like it much... Does anyone own any 3er in this coulour? Do you have some other photos? I couldnt find any on whole internet... Thank you PJ

(E92) Official Arctic Metallic E92 Thread - http://e90post.com/forums/showthread...ght=arctic+e92
(E90) Official Arctic Metallic E90 Thread - http://e90post.com/forums/showthread...ght=arctic+e92 Do a search, there are tons of Arctic pics on the forum. Here are pics of mine: http://e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33326 To answer your question, they are the same on the coupe and sedan. And what you're witnessing is the beauty of the color: it has very chameleonic shades depending on lighting. On an overcast day it could look gray, in showroom lighting it could look light blue, from a distance on a sunny day I've seen mine look blue-greenish. It's a really great color and it's different than most of what we're used to seeing. If you're concerned and want a "fixed" color then maybe it's not for you. Sparkling Graphite, for example, has some of this too... sometimes it looks purple and not that dark grey/graphite type of color. Check out the above threads and do a search for more... seeing it in person is what really sold me on it.

Ninjaneer: Thanks, Ive seen the Official Arctic Metallic E92 Thread, but there are almost no "live" pics. But I didnt look into E90 thread because I wasnt sure if it is the same colour... So thanks for tip
Ive always been buying black cars. Ive had several black BMWs and Audis and I didnt want to buy another black car. I still have two black E46 and having third black BMW will make me look like Im going to die soon... I wanted sopme light colour and the Arctic looked great in configurator and in person too. But it was shiny weather, seeing 3er sedan in Arctic after dusk was little bit dissapointing. Your car looks more grey on the photos and it is fine. But I dont like the green look much and Arctic obviously looks sometimes a bit much greeny... I still can change the order, but my only alternative is black, I dont see any other suitable colour. I will go through the photos, but I think I will take the Arctic. The black, grey, silver etc. is so boring today, everyone has it... Last yeat I loved the SG, but today it is so usual that it has absolutely no magic for me... I will have a surprising colour at least Thanks once more for your reply...

I have E90 Arctic Metallic color.
This is a strange color, under a clear sky sunny day, it is light blue, when its cloudy it is greenish, rainny days it turns to light grey and at night it is dark grey. Anyone notice the same result? |

Dealer described it as a "minty green" to me. But in the e92 color thread pics it looks light blue. If it were always light blue, I'd have bought it. I am somewhat confused that there may be an e92 "arctic white" Euro only color, separate from e90 "arctic metallic" which are two different colors. Unless the arctic white mentions I saw were just errors or corruptions of alpine white.

My 325i is Arctic. It mostly looks metallic gray in the bright Florida sunlight, at night under artifical light it looks light blue. At first I wasn't sure about it, but now I love it. Oh, and it doesn't show dirt quickly like some of the darker colors. That may be a consideration.

I have on order now TiAG but after looking at this post think I might change my mind. All the rainy pics in the Official thread kind of made me dislike the color. But that full range deal pretty much sold me. Thanks guys.

Both Arktis colors have the same color code, both for the E90 as for the E92, therefore they have to be exactly the same.
I have seen Arktis in real on the E90. Strange, but it looks better in pictures than in real. In real it is just something eh...baby blue or so. |

I haven't seen the green shade yet. I have seen Arctic in the wild, on a cloudy day and it looked an undefinable grey - almost dark grey, and it was beautiful - much better than space grey. I have seen it in the dealer's showroom and that was a real turndown, it made me think of babyblue - a color Barbie probably wants for her car. Still doubting, Arktis is definitely a Strange Attractor - but more by its exlusiveness than by its sheer beauty. I might go for the Sparkling Graphite with its eggplant ambiguity, much like arctic it is also a chameleon colour, albeit not as explicitly. But that puts me in the same dilemma as yours: I have already had mostly Black cars... |

I don't think that Arctic looks better in photos, it is just that most members haven't seen the whole spectrum of Arctic, only a glimpse of it once or twice.
Arctic is much more dynamic in person because you can walk around the car and see the difference that the lighting makes on each section. The curves and subtle lines of the car are much more dramatic on Arctic because of the way it looks in different lighting it kind of highlights and shadows certain areas. The same can be said for Sparkling Graphite with it's blue, purple and gold tones and for the other metallics as well, but Arctic definitely does stand out the most as far as it's chameleon effect.

Agreed...Sparkling Graphite and Arctic looks better in real life. I must say, so does Monaco blue too. Imho, I think alpine white looks better in pics than irl.
