Could be...$50 per tire is $200 + labor 1 hr $95 = $295

Maybe call a few other tire places. I'm thinking it should be closer to $100 to $150 so that comes out to $25 - $35 per tire with labor.

Go somewhere else. Tirerack has recommended installers listed on their site.

Some of the "chain" places do it for 10-15 bucks a tire. Check them out.

you dealer is probably charging you .5 hours labor per tire, at $110/hour, so $55 per tire, then add weights and valve stems, old tire disposal fee... yeah I can see $300. It's too much though, you can go to a tire shop and pay $100.

If you have them mounted and balanced already from tirerack, I'll do installs for a 6-pack of good beer.

My dealer quoted me a ridiculous $413 to mount and balance 4 winter tires on the 162s; I almost fell off my chair!!!

Decided to get the 17inch wheel and tire pkg from Gary@ tirerack; and swap them out myself.

Matt, how difficult to install tire with the tire monitor? Any technical info you can share about the location of the tire monitor sensor and would a shop other than BMW change tires and be able to but the sensor back correctly? Thanks.

reviving the thread...I was at the dealer on tuesday, and I asked them the charge for mounting...$65/tire! my stock bridgestone runflats are down to 1.5mm on the rear, not bad considering 25k miles now, but looking to get the continental dws soon...only thing is I don't know of any trustworthy installers in my area (delaware)

is the tpms gonna be an issue? or is it simple that any tire place can install? I was leaning towards going to the dealer, but $65 is insane

All tire places will be able to install the tpms. It started being required in 2007 that all vehicles need it so it's not like BMW is the only ones. If the tire shop hasn't learned after 4 years then...they shouldn't be in business...

I just pulled my invoice from january of 2009 and it was 188.68 (including 10.68 for tax) to mount and balance 4 blizzaks bought from tire rack on my stock 189 wheels. They charged 160 for the labor and 4.50 for each weight package.

You can't say it costs 50 bucks per tire plus labor...what is the 50 bucks for? I think 40-50 bucks plus tax is the fair price...

F the stealership....go to discount tire or one of their chains, whoever you have closest to you.

Discount tire by me charges 45 per tire if you bring in your own tires or if they price match.

is it normal for price per tire to vary depending on the aspect ratio? I was browsing tire rack's "recommended" installers, and there's one by my work that charges $28/tire for 40-45 series and $35 for 35-series and below...there's a few other 'chain' retailers (just-tires) and such that charge $25/tire

also, guessing tire rack is the way to go for dws? any other retailers with cheaper prices? I've gotten a few sets from them before for my other car, always been good. haha I know they're sponsored here, so maybe I should retract my question lol

While $295 is absurd, consider how your tires are mounted.

The chains give some high school dropout 10 minutes of training to work the balancing machine. That machine has been used and abused by a long line of previous "employees" that couldn't give a rat's ass about what they are doing.

They'll pull your wheels off and let them dance around as they fall on the shiny side. If there are old wheel weights or a lug nut on the ground it'll just add more scratches - no worries.

I have yet to see a chain mount a tire without scratching something. Most don't even have a pressure gauge.

At least you have recourse with a dealer.

Get your tires at Costco. You'll be glad you did. $15 per tire. Prices are reasonable. Just had my RFT's replaced by Bridgestone Turanza Serenity's. Not a problem. Not a scratch. No shipping. No dealing with installer attitude.

This TireRack thing is not always the best course of action when you add ALL the costs - never mind the additional time and usual headaches of dealing with an installer and his attitude since you didn't buy the tires from him.

I always mount my own wheels. I had the BMW dealership mount my winter tires onto my new winter wheels. They did that including new valves and balancing of the four (4) winter wheels they charged me only $86.00 with tax.

My wife's car is a Jag the dealer removed the summer tires then mounted the winter tires and balanced the four wheels before remounting the wheels onto the car the cost was $168.00 with tax (I asked whey so high the said "You have low profile tires that is why" ~ I guess I am still helping to pay for there special low profile tire machine).
