FMIC - Intercooler

Does any one of you are interested to change the FMIC for your lovely bimmer? Fitment for E90 ~ E93 are won't be a problem. As you know BMW's engine is very hot, better intercooler is always recommended especially for turbo car too.

Production : Made in Sweden, better than Helix for sure.
Source : From Barry in Sweden.
Bulk order would be an advantage ^ ^

Any picture to show us the prototype?? Even better with a picture to elucidate the location of the set up, to see whether or not, the FMIC will be relocated to the front i/o the factory setting to hide behind the coolant gauge!!!

Yeeeahhh I am interested but how much?

I was really worried about the oil temperature with my 335 awhile ago especially after the boost up the temperature was always lingering around 120 degrees during city drives. So what I did was I bought a oil cooler from the states, one of those kits which didn't even fit! Anyhow, i had it fitted on the passenger side so right now I am running 2 oil coolers. So if anyone is interested in upgrading their coolers DON'T! Buy a oil cooler from greedy or hks and have 2, it's a lot cheaper doing it that way. After the install I thought all my heating problems were gone but it wasn't. Highway driving and power runs was significantly better but city driving was still really bad as in it was still around 120 degrees. Me and my mechanic went through the manual and realised that the thermostat controlling the opening and closing of the oil cooler was set at 110 degrees which is pointless in my point of view because at that time the engine is already too hot. My guess why it was made that way was becasue in germany or many western countries there are long freeways and traffic jams are not so common along with humid hot weather does not help our situation.

Then what i did was i got a machine shop to make me a new themostat. It's already been half a year since the install and it has been perfect. What happens now is that the oil cooler is always on and when I am cruising now i am hovering just under 100 degrees with the intercooler i am expecting another 5-10 degrees.

So if there is a good deal for an intercooler, I am in!

I will give you a hint on what to come.

I was really lucky to meet two BMW M-tech at Nürburgring last year.
He disclosed some info regarding the limit of our engine. Also some key point in what need to be done.

With that said we've been experimenting on different solution during last autumn with some progress.

Nottie88 was right on about the thermostat. We're looking into it right now to see if it's possible to modify the thermostat to get optimal flow from 80 degrees and up.
I'll update you as soon as I have some info.

Here are some simple steps to follow if you want the endless power.

1. You'll need to do is to get the 5-40 engine oil out of you cars.
Change it to a better oil that can handle higher temp. like 10-60 castrol edge or any other brand that you may like or trust.

2. Get a InterCooler a aftermarket lower the intake temperature by
20 degrees. and it will keep the power coming on multiple pulls. That is proven.
The oil temp does not cut out the engine power until 130 degrees. If you ever reach that high, you'll get a limp mode.

3. You should get a water cooler. If the water temp get higher than 100degrees it will start to reduce power. And that's why everyone change the cooling fuild to somthing that will withstand higher temps.

We have tried it during our air fields test and it works. If you got the money, then go for the watercooler.

4. Better engine fan. like the one in the 335is but a simple
fan for the South Africa and middle east models will do just fine. The easiest way to get hold of the part is to order it through BMW. If the sales person is kind enough to dig through the parts nr for you. it's in the spare parts system.

5. Second oilcooler or upgrade you current. There are still a lot of improvements.

Regarding the prototype picture of the IC , I saved some photos on kenjis work computer.

That was totally handmade, almost freehand without any real measurement taken.

The one that we're going to make will have a upgraded core (more efficient) and
better constructed. I will be made by a company which deliver oil/water cooler for special industrial applications. they got all the high-tech machines like a watercutter, CAD scanners and a whole lot of stuff that I don't understand.
I can't promise that it will look stunning, our main goal is to simply build a great IC
I will be racing grade IC with lightness and optimal cooling for demanding people like ourselves.
When I say racing I refers to rally. Why? Because road racing is not as demanding as rally.

All the IC will be checked and.
The fitment and checks will be tested on E90/E92 Automatic, Auto with DCT and MT. (even the with the radar options for active cruise control)

On models from 2007 to the latest 2009. A final tested will be conducted on all IC before shipping.

Just contact Kenji if you're interested I will channel through the info to him.
I will not make any announcement on any threads since this is special order.

I am sure BMW know about how to make 335 faster. They just don't want their 335 to perform too close to their M3.

BMW performance kit will solve part of the problem. The price of the kit is ridiculous high though.

Since you're not getting a new IC, the inlet air is still too high to maintain power when driven hard.
But then again if a 335i gets better than a M3 with oem mods, what will the M3 customers say about that!

The are already furious when we gain more than 4-8 CL on them with full stage 3 tune.
Imagine getting beaten around a track on top of that.
I hope I'll be able to show you that this year.

Update:

There has been delay in the production due to our cars were unable to reach the workshop
to do proper measurement for the CAD drawings. During these weeks Sweden has been hit by the worst snow storm in 10 years -40 degrees and freaking huge amount of snow.

We're 3 weeks behind the original schedule. I really do hope we can get the car out next week.
