Open Carry

"The public carrying of a firearm in plain sight." In California, the firearm must be unloaded/ammo separate from the firearm and holstered.

Thoughts, opinions?

wtf is the point of having it unloaded if the need to use it arises. that's like saying "hey, look, i have a gun! but by the time i'm able to use it, you've already robbed me blind or killed me!"

Eh there is definitely some irregularity in this legislation.

You cant carry a loaded firearm yet you can keep a loaded magazine within reaching distance???? Confused

Seems like they are too lazy to get a concealed weapons permit and rather "show off" that they have a gun. When the occurrence arises they won't have time to arm themselves to use it.

Or, in some cases, too young. Here in PA, you can open carry at 18 or conceal at 21. I plan on getting a concealed permit when I'm 21 in a few months.

Open carry safer for law enforcement, but then again anyone who's weapon is going to be a threat to a cop wouldn't follow the law anyway. Moot point.

Its pretty hard to get a CCW permit in CA dude. I think the open carry legislation here regarding the weapon being unloaded is for the safety of law enforcement; perhaps the idea behind it is that if the person wanted to use the weapon in a malicious manner, they would have to unholster, insert magazine, charge weapon, and fire. Who knows?

If you're so worried about self defense being an issue, you can take the legal risk of walking around with a round chambered, and the magazine removed...hopefully you'd never be stopped by an officer who wanted to inspect the weapon to make sure you were in compliance with the law.

BTW, what fuckin idiot would attempt to rob anyone who had a firearm displayed on their hip anyways?

Also, if you're mildly quick, you'll have more than enough time to arm yourself. During rapid response drills, we were removing, reloading and firing off the first shot in less than 3 seconds. Unholster, load, charge, fire should take 5 seconds or less.

The question is, how many petty thieves are aware of the ins and outs of the laws? haha.
