iDrive Spool Motor

Ok I know that this has probably been beaten to death on this thread...but please excuse me as I am new.

I have a 2007 e92, and the spool for my iDrive has a motor on it. I would much prefer the spool with no motor on it. Is there any way to switch this out, or is the spool electronically connected to my nav system? Thanks in advance for the help!

the 2008+ knobs don't have that spool. I think they're interchangeable but I can't be too sure.
