Insurance Company

What insurance company does everyone have on the island? I have had USAA (which was the cheapest for me) and now have Geico. I saved over $550 every 6 months by switching to the little lizard. I called statefarm and progressive, and couldn't find anyone better. I'm military with zero tickets/accidents in last 5 years.

I have State Farm. I think Geico was cheaper though.

I'm a little surprised that Geico could beat USAA by that much. Is it the exact same coverage? Did you figure USAA's annual SSA distribution into your calculations?

I recently got a Geico quote too, but they were still a few hundred dollars more per year than USAA. I was pleasantly surprised by Geico's quote though (and equally disappointed in USAA). A few years ago, no other company could even come close to USAA's rates, but USAA definitely isn't as good (or as competitive) as it once was. I think it has a lot to do with USAA’s ever-expanding risk pool over the last decade. In an attempt to increase revenues, the USAA Board of Directors has decided to let everyone and his brother join now (literally), so the long-time members are now paying for it with significantly increased rates.

It’s a real shame what the short-sighted USAA Board of Directors has done to a once great Mutual Association of U.S. military officers…

You are completely spot on. I'm still with USAA, although it wasn't the cheapest. I stuck with them because I've had such good experiences with them.

Just over 10 years ago, no one could even touch USAA rates. Now, that's not the case.

Case in point, I once tried shopping around a decade ago for different insurance rates. Once I mentioned I'm with USAA, the other agents would stop me and tell me that they couldn't come close to USAA's prices.
