Post Deals on Approved Used m3?

Hi,

I have already test driven an m3 and am convinced I will be trading my 330i in for one. I'm looking at purchasing a used m3 (approved) and was wondering what kind of deals people were getting off the original retail price. Any info would be great as I'm hoping to visit the dealer this week to finalise the purchase.

Many thanks!

Good luck with the hunt, I got mine a year ago, car was 8 months old at the time and was 10k less then a new one.

Guess it depends on what spec you are after also?

Thanks .. I'm looking for a DCT with EDC.I have found a couple of cars that fit what I'm looking for.

I guess the question I was asking is how much have people been able to push dealers down on the price they were originally asking for?

$tealers usually build in £3-4k profit on these cars. That should give you a starting point.

Depends on the dealer my friend, my local dealer seems to have no problem shifting used M3's, again depends on model & spec but the E90 seems to hold it's money pretty well, especially in popular color combinations etc.

Best would be to find two or three similar cars and try playing off each dealer against the other, if you are set on getting one and stick to your budget then you could get lucky!

On an AUCS car I think you may find that very limited, it will depend on the following:

The finance deal if you use finance
A trade in, if you are trading in.

Then the original price that BMW got the car for. If its come via a real person then you might get a decent deal, if its come via BMW auction then I expect there will be very little room for them to move.

I bought a brand new M3 and got 6K knocked off it back in June.

Thanks for the replies. My dad is trading in an 06 330i M Sport for it - it is actually his purchase, I'm just dealing with the dealer on his behalf since he is currently away from the UK.

Originally when we went to the dealer to test drive the m3 we got a ridiculous trade in estimate for the car.

Since then I contacted glass' guide to get a trade in valuation for the car (taking into account its mileage and extras). I also went onto the BMW website to see what cars with similar mileage and extras were selling for. Outcome of my search: we were offered £4k less than the glass' guide valuation and £8k less than similar cars being sold by other dealers!!

Personally I'm looking for a £3k increase on the valuation originally given (since car has a bit of curb rash on 2 wheels and a tiny dent on the rear bumper which would have to be repaired) and a £1k decrease on the retail of the m3 I'm looking at, since I know they make a good deal of money on the resales.

I'm going to meet with the rep again with all this info so will let you know how it goes.

what dealer are you using?

I use Sytner - reasonably decent at doing deals. Some of the smaller dealerships can be better though, Sycamore in Peterborough where pretty decent also.

I got mine for £5000.00, priced @ £59780.00 with all my options, so just over £9K off but£2500.00 was an extra allowance @ the time.
So £9780 - £2500 = £7280.00 OFF list.
New E90 Saloon M-DCT,EDC,Comfort access, shadow line, sun protection glass, upgraded sound, folding seats and mirrors,Pro NAV,B/tooth,19" wheels, adaptive lights and some other stuff I cant remember, all new December 2009 (2010 model)
I did play the field on this deal.
PS) Paid £325.00 extra for Gap insurance.

Park Lane - probably not the best dealership to do deals but was the easiest one to get access to at the time.

Wouldn't mind travelling if a good offer came up though.

That is a very good deal indeed! Was it ordered or one they already had in stock?

If you don't mind me asking what dealership did you purchase it from?

Not looking good .. the dealership is fixed on offering what I feel is a seriously low price for the 330i, pushing the whole thing a couple of grand outside budget. Their reasoning: 'the cheapest approved '06 330i is selling for £15,500 and that is what we would have to put your one for' - without taking into account that particular car has no extras and higher mileage (i.e. no navigation, PDC, Bluetooth phone prep, TV and a bunch of other stuff).

On the other hand the most expensive approved 330i with similar options & 10k miles more (although an 06 reg rather than a 55) is selling for £21,995

Glass's Guide Trade in price is set at £14,250 (taking into account no extras and 45k miles) and the personalised valuation was £16,000 - £16,800 (taking into account the fact that it has only 17,500 miles and the options).

Anyone know if you can purchase another dealers car through a different dealer? and if so how it works? If not may just have to keep looking around to find another car.

Look go on the net, look for the M3 spec you want even if it's 300 miles away, give them a ring tell them you've been offered X or what you think the cars Market RV is, and ask if they are in the market to match or improve the deal, you don't mind the travel IF there is a good offer, then see what comes. someone will bite.

What's the mileage on your fathers car and is what month/year 55 reg is it?

Assuming this is a 330i M sport saloon automatic, I just couldn't see the other two cars your dealers valuations are based on.

On one of the other forums I frequent, a guy traded in his immaculate (no prep work needed at all!) low mileage 330i M sport, similar vintage to yours for circa £13k. His car was loaded with options but it was manual. The guy was into detailing and the car was actually thoroughly immaculate.

Anyway, as others have rightly said, the discount if any on an AUC car depends on what channel the car has come in from and how long the dealer has had in stock. My previous M3 was bought back by the supplying dealership and was sold on within a matter of days for not a lot of mark up. Used M3's are in demand at the moment hence I don't think you'll get a lot of money off. In fact they recently had two saloons in, and they sold pretty quickly as well.

Have you tried selling the trade in privately? I wish you good luck but I just can't see any trader rising up to the sort of money you're looking for. If you get near £16,800 as a trade in, for the condition you describe the car in, that would be very generous.

The general idea is a dealership either gives you an excellent trade in, and they don't budge on the asking. Or if you get a great deal on the car you buy, you get a rubbish trade in offer. Unfortunately very difficult to have both.

From my buying experience, its difficult to get a healthy amount of money off an AUC car in right specification. Not every used car has £3k-£4k margin in it, sometimes its just hundreds. It is far easier to negotiate money off a brand new car as they have higher margins, and there are sometimes incentives for the selling dealer. The last time I went to buy nearly new AUC BMW, I ended up with a brand new car for not a hell of lot more.

Wise words indeed, I usually buy NEW and as said some dealership will need to make a sale to give a "large sale incentive" from BMW so game on.

Thanks for that info - very useful info indeed. I am actually getting some quotes on new m3s to see how they compare.

I spoke to another dealer who had a similar car (age and specs) for sale and they said they would offer just over £15k trade and around £16k p/x, however they didn't have any m3s in stock.

At the moment I'm just running around looking for the right deal that suits what he is looking for, he is in no rush to sell the car so just waiting around for the right one.

Again thanks for the post, much of the info contained within made things much clearer

Hi
Ive just bought a used M3 manual with EDC. I live in North London and travelled to Crossflags dealership in Dumfries to buy my car because 1) they were prepared to do a deal 2) the sales guys were human beings.
I tried Scotthall and Specialist cars in Herts and both not prepared to find me a car or do a deal.
Plus, the guys at Crossflags told me that as they were so small (probably the smallest in the country) they were working on the basis of lower margin to increase volume.
When I picked up mine, they has just taken a black 4 door with your spec on an 08 I think and sold it on day one to another guy down south.
Hope that helps

I agree... I went to Southport (Halliwell Jones) to get mine... all these smaller dealers do better deals and always try to help you.

Really? Haha. I made the same 420 mile round trip to check out a saloon I nearly bought over the bloody phone. Good job I didn't. Car was stone-chipped to buggery, needed two rear tyres and had scuffs and the most they would budge was £500. Ironically my S3 broke down on the way there so I got my lappy out whilst waiting for the RAC and found my SG in Nottingham. Called them up, said I was about to potentially buy the wrong car, agreed £2k off there and then, drove up the next day and the car was perfect so I bought it. 2 very different experiences - really wasn't impressed with HJ, especially as they knew I'd driven from London.

On a positive note I made the salesman clutch the seat base on the test drive out of pure fear so that was quite good
