About to purchase a 2010 335i M package
Hey guys,
I've been an owner of a 2002 X5 3.0i and a member of Xoutpost.com (was X5world.com) for awhile now. I've decided to sell and get a 335i. I found the 'one' for me at my local BMW dealer, and the deal should be closed this Friday if weather permits. It is a 2010 335i fully loaded (minus the fold down rear seats and anti theft system). It has the M package, plus he said it is the HP edition, meaning it came from BMW with an exhaust system, custom intake, suspension, and performance chip. I didn't get to drive it because of all the ice in their lot, but I will Friday. It has 700 miles on it and he wants to sell for $55,000 final offer. I am being offered $11k from the dealer for my X5 (which i feel is worth MUCH more ) so i am trying to get it sold by myself. But my question to you guys since I'm new to the 3, (had the E53 and an E70 X5): does $55k sound like a good deal? anything else i should know/look out for? Thanks! |

no idea..i didn't think it was the official name for it thats why i explained it lol (guess he was just referring to it as HP?). but basically BMW added some mods to it..exhaust, intake, suspension, and performance chip.. thats all. those parts total out to about $4500, MSRP was $53,7xx, and he wants to give it to me for $55k.

HP = horsepower edition!
it's the special fast & furious version with the bells & whistles and bling. it may also have two high pressure fuel pumps! because if one fails, you'll still have another one to race to the finish ! |

The factory doesn't add BMW Performance parts.

What exactly are the options on the car? You rarely ever see a BMW that is "fully loaded" as in ALL the option boxes are checked.

No fold down rear seats? I thought that was standard. Anyways, I think it does not sound like a good deal. It sounds like (from what is listed above) it is not FULLY loaded and the sticker is a bit high. Also, 700 miles? That's a lot of miles for a new car.

If the MSRP is $53,7xx then its not fully loaded except for fold downs and alarm. Its nicely loaded, but not fully loaded. Keep in mind that 2011's are coming in 2 months so if you plan to purchase that 2010 it will take 1 years depreciation in 2 months. Unfortunately, there is little to no resale value for addons that are not on the factory sticker. Who has been driving the car for the 700 miles? I'm always leery of "new" cars with miles on them. Many people rag on them knowing its not theirs. Even dealer staff! Do you want the addons and are you willing to pay the price for them? If no, then skip this car and keep looking. |

This is a PK demo car the dealer ordered for people interested in driving it. Lots of dealers have these, that car's 700 miles are all by customers and CAs who wanted to see how the PK drove. I drove one at my local dealer last weekend - fun times!

PK parts demos - every dealer has one
Several things to consider:
The Preformance parts were most likely "given" to the dealer by BMW to get the ball rolling on this program. The new 2011 car is almost in production, so this car is worth 5-10% less right now, dealers will start discounting 2010's very soon. The car is a demo, take another 10% off. Net Net the car should be offered at 15-20% under MSRP, with no charge for the preformance stuff if it were a great deal. Ask for a CPO now to extend the warenty. |

Yea...i wouldnt want my "new" car to have 700 miles on it.
Also, these miles were put on by people wanting to test the "high performance" of this vehicle lol. So basically the first 700 miles on the car were people pushing it to see how it does...before the car is even broken into. I'm sure you can find another 2010 fully loaded for cheaper and then put on performance parts as you wish |

I have that car in the Atlantic Blue finish. Came with the necessary window tint for Arizona, but no advanced stereo system or nav. Ended up paying $53K and it was worth every penny. Two weeks later, while in Chicago, found an 09 M3 hard top convertible with 8k miles for $58K. Broke my heart, but I was financed at 0.9% which was no longer available.
If you truly love the car, then the hard part is done. The rest is just a negotiation and they need your money more than you need the car. |

yes they do. it is a port installed accessory. there are a number of pieces you can have the "factory add" if you get a car that hasn't left the processing center or if you do a special order.

BMW performace parts
I test drove one with the same package on it and it the addition $4500 sticker and totaled out to about $54000. I was told by the dealer that those options are installed at the port where it is imported, in the case NJ. The package consisted of the performance exhaust and the performance power kit (see below from Tisher BMW).
OEM BMW Performance Power Kit The BMW Performance Power Kit for the BMW 135i and BMW 335i redefines engine performance. The effects of the modifications to the engine tuning parameters include: Increased torque of 317 ft-lbs (manual trans) or 332 ft-lbs (auto trans), available from just 1,500 rpm Increased maximum output* of 320 horespower (see graph image) Faster acceleration from 0 to 75 mph Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions remain the same as the standard model. The warranty validity and vehicle quality are not compromised in any way. To deal with the extra heat generated as a result of the engine modifications, an additional radiator, air intakes, and more powreful fan for the main radiator are incorporated. Vehicles produced up to and including 2/2008 get a new DME (MSD81). Please contact your local BMW dealership for labor times and installation/coding quotes. It did sound incredible and seemed to have a little more power than stock. |
