Reading mileage from CA fob

Forgive me if this has been answered somewhere, but I want to make sure I get the correct answer. Does the key fob on a CA equipped car have to be inserted in the slot to record mileage, or is it done wirelessly?

Thanks.

It can be done wirelessly but your SA will probably insert it into the slot just to make sure everything gets transferred.
