Living in a DC suburb, I got tired of making the twice yearly tire changeovers with little or no snow. So I opted for some performance all-seasons on my daily driver E46 this year. Even though the non snow performance is very good, I now regret not mounting my winter tires and feel somewhat guilty for helping to bring on this misery.

Incidentally, while my 328i with its Toyota Proxes 4 A/S tires won't make it up my plowed (but icy) driveway, my wife's fwd Ford Fusion does just fine with Michelin MXM4 A/S rubber.

The Blizzaks on my 135i performed well when the blizzard struck on Friday night.... Only place I got stuck was where the snow was actually too high for the car to clear.

That said, I did take my wife's FWD Pontiac G6 GT (which also has snow tires) when I went to work on Monday, not the 135i.

I'm wondering if I should buy chains for my cars, just in case....

Well, I've been driving my gf's wrangler with brand new big azz tires and lift kit. I know, spoiled right? But I still miss my car and wouldn't trade it for driving a wrangler every day. Though pretty awesome and capable off-road and in the snow, driving my 1er is just a totally different experience. Whenever I drive something else for extended periods I usually start to crave 1er after about 3 days. I think something may be wrong with me

I finally broke down and bought the Dunlop SP Winter Sport tires. I couldn't even find them locally, so I ordered them from Tire Rack and had them shipped to my installer. The car is absolutely useless with the stock tires. I'm not even sure if I can get the car to the installer since they haven't plowed our streets!

I realize its not that close to you, but I bought my Dunlop M-3s a few years back at Radial Tire Co. in Silver Spring. As they have always been able to get any tire I need at competitive prices (with a discount for BMWCCA members), you might consider them in the future.

Can't say I miss the snow, having been in San Diego since the 1st. I am however missing driving my 09 128i when I have to deal with a rental. Small things I guess
