Chronic 2A99 Exhaust Vanos Solenoid Issue

Anyone else getting chronic issues with the 2A99-exhaust vanos solenoid failure? It's come up twice within the past few months where the SES light will come on. 1st time, the tech replaced it, and the 2nd time they performed the SIB to remedy it. In terms of work around that area, I have had the exhaust lifters replaced due to the ticking noises.

In other news and completely unrelated, they replaced my 6MT tranny @ 44k miles since I was having a hard time putting it into 1st on 20 degree mornings. Holy smoookes, it's like shifting through warm butter now . Kind of ridiculous at such a low(ish) mileage, but I'm quite happy.
