Can you get a base change or will you be commuting?

I can pick up LAX or DFW as a Base...I am commuting to LGA from PBI as it stands now, so not much of a difference there, if anything it might be better for me.

if you fly for AA, why wouldn't you choose dfw? that's by far the best designed airport out of all 3 of those. not only that, but the cost of living is so low. you fly mad dogs?

city-data.com has some great and helpful forums on relocating. I dig CA much more than FL personally.

Bring your f'ing wallet.

Regardless of what it cost to live in WPB (which I'm sure isn't cheap), you have never experienced a financial drain quite like California.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it (there for 4 years), but I don't regret moving away at all.

I've lived in both FL and CA

FL = no state income tax which is a BIG plus

CA = better climate, more things to do, but more crowded and much more expensive

all i'm saying is dallas isn't bad, no commute working for any AMR company, and the cost of living is dirt cheap. dallas is a very nice city, although there aren't any beaches, but you'll be spared state income tax, high sales tax, earthquakes, hippie prius drivers, and all the other recent socioeconomic issues in california right now. for the cost of a 1000sq ft flat in most california cities, you can have a 3000+sq ft house 5 minutes from DFW. not only that, but i'm going to assume that you're under 10 years exp flying 145's, which i can only deduct that you're not making a terrific amount of money with eagle yet. it all comes down to money at the end of the day, and that's how you should base your decision IMO. are you FO or capt?

unrelated, but my girlfriend's dad retired as the top md80 pilot for AA. i'm almost 99% sure he'd echo the same thing. i'm also a pilot myself, although just private at this point, but grew up in dallas and have zillions of friends that work for eagle and AA...most that are based elsewhere wish all the time that they were based out of dallas. hell, i'm sure you're already there enough anyway...all of them are.

I heard you, but No beach, No Deal....We both love the ocean way to much to give it up, so Dallas is a No No No No No..BIG NO for us, high living cost seems to be the only downside to Cali but honestly, the wife makes 3 times more per year than I do, should have been a surgeon too .

no, i'm just a private pilot (private, single, multi, inst., complex, etc., etc.) at this point. i actually haven't logged any hours in a while, need to get a current medical and biennial. but having grown up in dallas around the pilot community, it's hard to not know dozens of AA pilots or SWA pilots, not to mention that everyone that i went to school with now flies for eagle or AA. in my edit above, my girlfriend's dad retired as the top md80 pilot for AA, i've heard plenty of AA war stories from him.

Since we're discussing other places, I'm looking into moving to Austin, TX. Heading down for a week in April to check it out first hand.

If money is not an issue then go for. Being there done that, I can tell you is not a piece cake.

CA is way more expensive.

If was me I was going to move somewhere better in Florida.

I moved from CA to IL and I triple my income.
After I moved I used the money from stupid extra expenses in CA and Invested in something better, made my money triple or plus.

Good Luck!!!
