Dynamat Advantage?

What are the advantages to using dynamat and where would you use it?

it gets rid of rattle, but our cars are pretty tight, so if you install a system and have it done correctly you shouldnt rattle.

Ah, i see... well thats good. I'll save some money there. I do see that a lot of times people will line the underseat sub enclosures with dynamat. Is that necessary?

If you are experiencing rattles then yes it would be necessary, its the "right" thing to do to ensure you experience the best sound out of your stystem without external noises interfering.... however it comes with a price, not just monetary, but in weight of the vehicle.

ya dynamat is Heavy, and about 400$ to do a rear seat or trunk.

If you do the box right, you dont need it.

the SWS guys use it because they are runing spacers and modded the cans for the speakers, which might cause some rattle.

yeah, the reason I asked is because i'm about to put in the sws8's under the seats which would require the mods you speak of. So in your opinion its a good safety net to avoid any potential vibrations? In other words, It wouldnt be a bad idea to line the area around the speakers throughout the car.

A great low cost substitution for Dynamat can be purchased at Lowes or Home depot in the roofing department. It is called Iceblock. It is exactly the same thing as Dynamat without the fancy aluminum foil top coating and you can do probably 2 entire cars for under $60.00. If you are doing just a small project you can look at the 6" wide rolls for like $20.00. I have used this in several vehicles and it works just as well as the vehicles that I used Dynamat in.

I don't have dynamat, but a friend of mine does and it helped a lot in his Accord with 3 JL W3's.

My 12" JL W7 makes the rear shelf and the door panels vibrate and make some nasty noises at certain frequencies.

I'm getting my E92 next month and I'm pretty sure that'll I'll dynamat the trunk, and *maybe* the front doors.
