Buying used this weekend

I'm going to look at two used 335xi Sedans this weekend. One is 2007, the other is a 2008. Both are low miles, BMW CPO with Sport, Cold Weather, and Premium packages. One has the optional 18" wheels, the other has the standard sport 17" wheels.

I'm wondering if there are any specific questions I should ask, or issues I should look for common with these models. Are there any notable differences in the two models years?

Thanks in advance guys/gals, and I look forward to being on the boards once I've got the car in hand. Coming from two audis, I know how useful the audiworld forums were and I can't wait to read what's going on in the world of the 3 series.

Check the passenger side wheel well for the oil cooler would be something of concern for me. I don't know the specs for the xi to have it but its real easy to see in the wheel well up front.

That's a good one. I know it comes on some of the sport models, but I've seen some people with sport packages saying they didn't have them.

Make sure to took to take a look at the carfax..but i guess that is stating the obvious. I dont think there were any major changes from 07 to 08. 18" wheels are nice, but if you plan on upgrading to aftermarket wheels of your choice, then that really shouldnt matter too much.

Personally i would go for the 08 because of the longer warranty. I just recently purchased an 08 335i coupe, and what i noticed that the 07's i looked at seemed to have a lot more wear and didnt look as "new"... for obvious reason as well lol.

Aside from that, i know BMW is having a special right now on select 07's that will include extended maintenance for an extra 2yrs or 50K miles as well as having fairly low interest rates. So you might be able to capitalize on that.

At the end of the day, get the car that YOU like more...even if it means spending a little extra. You get what you pay for

Also, I believe the 08's got the new style(LCI). Considering there is not much price dofference, I would go with the 08.

Not really...just promise us you won't come back on this board and say something like "I have only "X" thousand miles and my HPFP died", or "My new to me BMW is only 2 weeks old and I'm getting long cranks, Is this a problem I should be worried about?"

Basically, just search HPFP. These guys are so sick of finding new HPFP threads.

Thank you for correcting that. I had missed the Sedan point.

I agree that HPFP is a problem. But every time I drive the car, it puts a grin on my face. I am sure you will not regret with a 335.

Good luck with the purchase.

No visible changes between 07 and 08. Go with the 18' wheel package sport.

I've seen some posts about the HPFP. Isn't BMW doing anything about it yet?

For xi, the oil cooler only comes with sport plus 18" wheel upgrade. I don't think the oil cooler is absolutely necessary, but if deciding between two cars like this, it's a definite plus for the one with. The one with 18" wheels should have the oil cooler, and the one with 17" rims won't. An April 08 build forward should also have the MSD81 part (vs MSD80), which is also a small difference in the engines (search on this term for more info).

when you think about it at first the diff between 18s and 17s seems small but after awhile you're gonna appreciate the 18s, i promise.

congrats!

Supposedly they're working on it. Not much to worry about though, they extended the warranty on it. If my original warranty was up, I would hope for a HPFP problem since it's still covered.

They've been working on it since 2007 (3 yrs), and continue to work on it. It's an annoyance to be honest and #1 reason why I chose the 335d.

so talking to the dealer, I have some new info. Below are the pros and cons of each. Both are CPO, and include the extended 2yr warranty and 6yr free maintenance. Other than what is listed below, the cars are identical. Assuming the same price, is one a better buy/ better fit?

Car A
- 2007 model year
+ 18" optional wheels
+ Oil cooler
+ 21k miles
+ I prefer the interior color on this one and the brushed metal instead of wood

Car B
+ 2008 Model year
+ paddle shifters
+ prefer the exterior color
- not crazy about the interior color, and wood
- no oil cooler
- 27k miles
- 17" wheels

Thanks.
