wtf? Water inside my car?

So today I drove my car, parked it and returned about an hour later. I started the car and continued on as normal, then upon reaching a stop sign I came to somewhat of an abrupt stop. As this happened, water started leaking out of the map light area from the ceiling and landed right next to my shifter. It was a considerable amount of water as I would expect no water to be leaking into my car...What the hell is this? I took a couple pictures with my phone as it happened, see attached. I have a service appointment tomorrow and will definitely be asking about this. This is the first time it happened and I have searched all over the forums for something like it. There was snow on the car the previous couple days but none today, only thing I noticed was that the felt-like material that surrounds the sun roof seal on the exterior of the car was saturated... anyone heard seen anything like this?

I considered removing that plastic piece where it came from and popped it off a little, decided to put it back as I will ask the service dept. tomorrow.

never heard of this also, crazy and sucks but if the dealer doesnt know what it is either and u still have the warranty then i would try for them to check the whole roof and change out all the electronics and felt/carpet on the top

Had this problem with a honda. The sunroof is designed to leak a tiny amount, but it has a drain that takes care of the water. If it gets too much at once, or if your drains get clogged with dirt or in your case ICE, they can overflow into the cabin.

Yep....Nissan too. Tubing runs into the rear-right 1/4 where it meets another tube from the power antenna drain.....

Did you check to make sure it wasn't Vodka? It can look a lot like water sometimes.

Your profile says "2006 BMW 325i" is that accurate? I've seen other posts about the drains for the sun roof getting plugged and the water leaking into the car when it can't drain.

Yup, most likely the sunroof drains are clogged. I hope so, it's an easy fix.

Keep us posted. I'm sure its nothing too serious, though.

None that I've seen here in our DIY section. Though this would probably be a nice addition if someone would be willing to do a DIY.

I cleaned the drains in my honda by spraying pressurized water down each drain (there is one in each of the 4 corners). Never had a problem again.

Yours may have been blocked by ice... that could be a slightly more complicated problem, if the water is 'pooling' somewhere in the line, and freezing anytime it gets cold. Or, it could have just got some snow in it, and the dealer wont find anything b/c there is nothing wrong.

I have (had) the same exact problem with my X5. It is most likely the drains that are plugged. Try opening the sunroof and you should see the drain holes at the corners. Get a can of club soda and pour slowly through the drain holes, and monitor under the car for the water. Club soda does a minimal cleaning job when going through the tubes, in case some dirt or something is blocking them.

There is also new SIB for X5 apparently that describes the sealing around the moonroof is probably worn out/compressed out of shape, and there is a fix from BMW that includes the changing of that seal with a new/better one.

Again, all of the above is from my X5 experience (which went away after the club soda cleaning), but it may be applicable here to.

Here is the link from my thread on x5 forum... in case it helps.

Well I opened the sunroof today and saw the little holes in the corner, wth? I can see how they could get plugged up so easily.

I need to try the compressed air trick or the bubble trick as mentioned above.
