Buying out my 2007 335i at lease end
Hello all,
I'm planning to buy out my 2007 335i at lease end. My buy out is $29k. A local dealer said he would give $2000 discount plus free CPO process to qualify me for the CPO rate that BMW is running now. I currently have about 24000 miles on the car, do you guys think it's a decent deal? Thanks! |

What is so special about the maintanence on a 335? He is getting the car CPO'ed. He will be covered with the warranty there.

Just make sure you get rid of it before the CPO warranty expires, it only has 24,000 miles which means you'll be covered for the next 3 years and 76,000, you'll be fine.

Most lease buy-outs end up with you bending over. Be sure your warranty is being extended too. This car without a warranty is like a death wish. |

I paid no down payment, $622/month and already made 35 payments. Which equals to about $22000 + $27000 = $49000 which is about $3000 over what I would have paid for the car. What do you guys think? Thanks for all of you guys' responses. |

What's your car worth now according to KBB and the other main sources? Buying out a lease almost never makes sense, especially with BMW's artificially high end-of-lease residual values. But your deal actually sounds pretty decent, largely because you are so under miles on the lease. If they are willing to CPO the car and give you $2000 off, that's sounding pretty good so far. Find out what your car is worth (if you haven't already) to see if even more could be negotiated off the residual. The HPFP is indeed covered for 10/120k, so you're good there. I rarely suggest this, but in your case it may actually be wise to buy it. You have been paying into the miles on the lease which you haven't utilized, so you're essentially throwing away those miles by turning in the car.

How is paying for routine fluid changes, brakes, etc., "suicide"? These items are basic DIY maintenance that can be performed by almost anyone. The BMW "full maintenance plan" charges an arm and a leg for these basic services...

You still like the car, you know its history, there are no secrets or surprises, you can get a free CPO so you have warranty for three more years, the fuel pump is not an issue since it's covered for 10 years. If you like it, buy it.

In other words, if a 46k financed over five years = 51k, for example, then you might have come out ahead with the lease + buyout. It's in the math.

If you can do without the "free" cappuccino and the "free" BMW loaner, routine BMW maintenance is pretty straightforward. Buy the Bentley manual. (A good idea anyway.) If I liked the car, sure, I'd buy it with a $2000 discount and a 100k mile warranty.

How do you have 8000+ posts here and not know of the 120k mileage fuel pump warranty? Stop giving bad advice about the reliability of these cars!!!

I think its a great deal. Free CPO and a discount of $2k off residual seems like a good deal.

Ha, he makes a good point, its a pretty well known fact that ALL 335i's the HPFP is covered for 10yrs/120k miles regardless. I received a letter in the mail as I assume most did.

I thought CPO did cover maintenance...
And besides, HPFPs are a few hundred bucks and I've heard the DIY isn't even that hard, it's hardly enough to ruin such a great car. I'm trying to find a manual 335i to get into in a few months and the HPFP issue doesn't have me worried at all. |

"CPO Process".
Is that just not the "Certification"? By that, clean up the car, fix what needs fixing, put on new tires, break pads, if needed? Is that a CPO? Granted, I went to buy my 530i which had a price of 32k. (no money down, payment 625$ a month for 15k a year!). Great lease makes for bad buy out. They would not budge on the price as they said they are low on used cars and can use the inventory. I think they get a gap insurance so dealer does not car about discount. They will turn around and make money selling the car for 28k with warranty in the end after BMW finance eats market value difference. They said they would get it ready to accept the CPO special rate, but no extended warranty either. I walked. Now maybe OP is getting a better deal which is cool, but might want to qualify. The other part of this is if driving only 666.66 miles per month is the warranty cost really worth it? The Fuel pump is covered.++ If you can get that car for 27k with or without warranty its a good deal. Bottom line is your happy with it. Most will tell you how much better they did and your not. A good deal is when everyone goes home happy! What will they do to the car? If it has a cpo warranty attached, its a GREAT deal! Last edited by Nalod; 02-18-2010 at 02:15 PM.. |
