2nd Hand 1st Gen Z4's ... a good deal?

Have noticed that the prices of the 1st generation Z4's have dropped since the introduction of the 2nd gens ... and understandably so.

You can get a 2nd hand 1st gen Z4 for ~ $180,000 which seems like a good deal for a second car that I can drive with my top down on the weekends for some fun ...

Do any of you have any experience with the 1st gen Z4's? Any comments on whether they are worth getting?

$180,000 for 1st gen Z4? That sounds quite cheap, sounds almost too good to be true! More importantly is the condition of the car. It's engine, bodywork, exterior and interior, brakes, suspension etc? The thing with used cars is that while it's more value for money as it is depreciated already, there are also many unknown factors. Make sure you check the service, maintenance and insurance records for any accident and repairs. Taking it to a pre-purchase inspection by mechanics is also a good idea.

When I first arrived in HK, I was about to get a E46 for $100,000 (since I like E46s alot, almost as much as a E90!), but checking of records reveal there was $100,000+ in repairs on the car, so I discover it was really banged up. I found a 2005 E90 325i instead. It was more expensive of course, but the condition was much better, almost new. It took me a while to find that car, but it is was worth the effort. Finding a reputable second hand dealer would help, there is one or two in Wan Chai Exhibition Centre and also some in the Kowloon Exhibition Centre. Of course, there are also some sleazy unreliable ones there too, so you have to know which one to rely on.

Ideally, I would love to get a E30 or even E30 M3, the classic which I love, anyone know if there are any in Hong Kong, and at what prices?

Back in 2007, a friend of mine paid $230000 (private sale) for an early model 2003 Z4 2.5i with less than 10000kms on the clock and in showroom condition... no major issues with the car 3 years on...

Having said that, I think $180000 is a reasonable price for a Z4 at this point in time... have the car thoroughly inspected by a 3rd party before purchasing!!

i have a 1st gen z4 and it is pretty fun to drive...nice small car and the top goes down really quickly so you don't have to park on the side to have the top down or back up...which i think is pretty important when it comes to sudden rain. i actually am thinking of selling mine you can pm me if you want details!
